I'm going to be SHORT and SIMPLE, My friend recently got Half-Life and ESF:ECX RC2, and we would like to play together, all the servers are too laggy, so I would like to host a server. BUT there are 2 problems

1: I can't port forward because my dad setup the router and I don't know the password and he won't tell me (well he may do it for me but I don't know the port forwarding numbers)
2: I'm not going to BUY a server

So can ANYONE tell me a working way on how to host a server so me and my friend can play together?

If you cant port forward, how about letting your friend host instead.

As for the port numbers

TCP: 27014-27050
UDP: 4380, 27000-27030

Try using Hamachi. Its the best thing around that doesn't require port forwarding.
