Welcome to
Earth's Special Forces
Forum Competition IV (Four)
Are you a frequent visitor of the ESF forums? Do you want access to THE ultimate headquarters of ESF information and want to see exclusive ESF news and media in advance? Well these competitions are here to give you free access to the Force Pit aka Phil's home.
Our forum regulars should remember the previous three forum competitions that were held some time ago.
- Competition I (Fight-Club) went to SaiyanPrideXIX
- Competition II (Banner-art) went to SuperSaiyanChris
- Competition III (Animated storytelling) went to Chakra-X
It's about time for another one wouldn't you say? So what's it about?
Maps! Mapping! Level design! Terrain layout! Whatever you'd like to call it.
So let's get down to it shall we?
Here are the rules :
- Each participant will be allowed to submit three maps or less. Each map will be judged individually, so don't be shy with your entree's.
- Your map(s) must be compiled with hullfile.
- Submissions with any sort of material that does not conform to the forum AUP will be disqualified (IE: porn, flaming, etc.)
- Each submission will be in it's creators self-titled .zip or .rar with a seperate folder inside for each map and it's components. (IE: Pain.rar --> Ox-King, Crater, Frieza-ship). If your submission is not in the correct format it will not be entered.
- Participants will PM me (Pain) their submissions with the title "Map Comp" somewhere in the PM title. If you post your submission in this thread it will be disqualified (explained below).
Now that we've gotten that out of the way. What goes into a submission?
- The compiled .bsp.
- The .rmf or .map file.
- Three .jpeg images at different angles of your map.
- Any additional files to be included with your map (.wad's, sounds, sprites, etc.).
Now, obvious though it may be, I must ask that since there will be save files with each submission that nobody post a link to theirs in this thread. The last thing we want is ripping of your hard work. If you like, you may post your .jpeg images in this thread. If you plan on entering you may not release your map elsewhere untill after the competition has ended and a winner has been chosen. Likewise, your map may not already be released.
Also, if you plan on entering, please say so in this thread, so I know how many PM's to be expecting.
Comments and small talk about posted .jpegs and participants are welcome!
Some free hosting sites that are suggested for use are :
You may use other hosting sites if you wish, just make sure the host doesn't die before I get your submission (IE: Angelfire or Geocities -_-)
Once I have your submission and I have confirmed it is in the correct format, I will respond to your PM so you are aware it has been entered.
Judgement criteria :
- Models and prefabs not created by the map author should be given credit.
- Maps with r_speeds higher than 1800 will suffer.
- Higher points will be awarded for original submissions. We don't want to see maps that are already in the game.
- DB/DBZ related maps will generally be scored higher, as ESF is based on DBZ (duh!)
- Brushwork, texturing, lighting, and overall look will all be taken into account when judging your map.
- Map size. Maps that are too large or too small for a comfortable frag enviroment will suffer.
As mentioned, if you use someone elses models or prefabs they must be given credit. Contestants may use any of the original ESF material that they wish.
Prizes :
- Force Pit access / 1.3 early (explained below).
- Your name will go up on the main page.
- Your map -may- be included with the release of ESF 1.3.
If the winner already has access to the Force Pit, they will then instead recieve 1.3 before anyone else. That means before the public, and even before the Force Pit folks get it! That's quite an incentive to pay into the Force Pit if you ask me .
Note: If your map is chosen to be included with the release of 1.3, the ESF team may edit your map as they see fit, without your consent.
Participants have exactly one month from today, September 10, to complete their maps and submit them.
If you've already submitted a map and would like to revise it that's fine. Just let me know, and make sure you get it back to me before the time limit is up.
No submissions will be taken after midnight of October 8th.

So, how many of you mappers want to show off your stuff?
