I am currently on a:

Pentium II 233 mhz with MMX

96mbram (100mhz-ram)

24x max cdrom drive

6.0 GB Hard drive with NO dma

Voodoo 3 300 PCI overclocked at 182mhz with newest drivers

and im asking, with my 150$ what is the best video card to buy for maximum performance and maximum framerate?

and also, will my bad pc effect the greatness of a video card such as a geforce 3 ti 500 or a geforce 2 ultra?

and also, the video card that would be best to buy with 150$, would it improve my framerate dramatically over my voodoo 3? in half-life i get terrible framerates, even with wickedgl and low details and low resolutions, my framerate in big maps is like 4-20 fps and my fps in small areas is like 30-50

$150 bucks for one month of still slow and crappy gameplay. Buddy just wait. Save us all some time. If it's that important, go buy like an ATI card. Or maybe any card with Nvidia chipset.

Save your money for the new pc. your p2 mobo can't support video cards that powerful(or if it can its trivial). And for gods sake buy a CD-ROM or cd-rw dvd-roms suck for reading info r copying discs.

Raid isnt all its cracked up to be anyways.

Stick with nVida cards they are "supposdly" perfect for p4's

If I were you though AMD sounds better...cheaper and more functional in most cases.

AMD is your best bet for Gaming. Intel doesn't have as good memory and is a little slower. Tests have proven a 1.3 can match a 1.7 Intel. So in other words, save your cash. AMD is cheaper too

...compaq...now that's something to laugh about. Do yourself a favour get talk your parents instead of buying something prefabbed and loaded. get them to use that money towards a custom built pc. More options (can be cheaper) and you have the software always with you. Plus customs are cooler.

Just go to any pc shop and ask them for a price on that compaq system. Compa\q is mainly intel based only though. If you go AMD ask them for a mid level T-Bird system. It should be cheaper then your compaq....

AMD Tbird 1.2 ghz
Asus A7V board (lower in value now but only has 100 fsb less oc'd)
512 SDram
Ati Radeon 7200
sblive value
Creative 8x+ cd-rw
Asus 8x dvd
D-Link nic card if your a boradband user

That is a midlevel system in my opinon anyways should cost a bit less by now and shop around/bargin with the people don't take there first price.
Basic setup anyways.

Ten sorry i gotta put you straight:-

Dont buy a T-Bird, they are old technology and are no longer being made by AMD they have been replaced by the far superior Athlon XP's which are faster and run 20% cooler than there T-Bird bethern.
I would recommend a Athlon XP 1500+/1600+ runs at 1.3/1.4GHz

And for your $150 i wold just keep it until you get your new PC with your old system there is no way that it can take advantage of a new card.

But if you were forced to buy one i would recommend the ATi 7500
