Looking decent so far. I would recommend using the dodge/burn tools, (assuming your using Adobe Photoshop) to give highlights and shadows to the muscles areas. This would give it some better definition and overall look.

ok i dont want to sound like an *******, everyone has to begin somewhere but this just looks like crap...

i know this is your first skin and all so ofcourse you have zero experience but that shouldnt stop you from trying to make something nice.
you just gave it a skin color and drew a few brown lines.

if you give something a try, then REY it, look for things like anatomy pics so you know where muscles are clearly visible, and try and get those in the skin.

go to www.fineart.sk for anatomy drawing/photo's it'll help allot.
and eventhough i dont like dodge and burn i still agree with NeoSaiyajin that you should use them, they're easy to get fast highlight results.

maybe it's just me but my first 3d model looked like crap aswell ( every first try does ) but i just made another model without showing my first to anyone, i just looked at other pics of model to comprare and thus find the error's myself, i would be to ashamed to have showed my first model.
i didnt start to show models untill they were of an average level and i really needed critz from other people.

again, i dont want be sound like an *******, i just think you should try a little more to make something nice.
and also dont lose motivation, just keep trying and you'll improve.

man blaize you are such a hater :p

thamuz:
draw some lines on the plain skin color on them skinmap so you can place the muscles or w/e
you are skining, then look it in 3d and see if you are satisfited with the placement,
after that put some dodge n burn n smudge n color n style n n n :l

what are you talking about nataku........
yes, listen to blaize, he makes some very good points. I suggest you dont use dodge and burn.... When texturing use a range of colours to paint, look at other peoples work and try and see how they achieved that end result.

edit: gir, i dont heart u and ur faster posting.

Actually, it really does look like you put basic colors on a model that is being worked on. Looks crappy. Give it some details and it should work better.

Never ever dodge and burn, if you dodge and burn and yay you think its nice and cool and then when you get better you'll have to relearn everything about using brushes because you took a side path which sidetracked you off learning properly

I'd say define more lines as others have said and use a more wide range of colours. :) Its better than my first skin imo so keep working on it

Well.. Ive seen some really good textures used from dodging and burning, (well more then just dodging and burning, using layers and other things... but jah) its just your personal choice really, I find using brushes far easier then dodging and burning, just keep it up, I think you should go to polycount's forums as well and look at the crits that they get for their skins/textures, could help you some, also you might want to download some video tutorials from polycount as well, (just search polycount in google).

Lucks for joo.

using dodge and burn wil get u fast and easy results, this is something a starting skinner wants i guess.
if u get fast results you're able to experiment more thus get beter.

once you're more expereinced you'll see that with dodge and burn you're not able to create nice warm skin tones ( like davidskiwam showed in his goku tread ) but for now i dont think it really matters.

here's a list of video tutorials i know willl help you:
http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/resources/general/video_tutorials/video-tut-list.shtml
checking the painting tutorial by BoboTheSeal will show how to use different colors in painting, ofcourse the others show u allot aswell :p

i hope you'll show an update because it seems quite some people are getting interested in the progress :)

BTW: thanx people, Nataku wasnt able to handle my critz about a skin he made so he's been angry with me ever since, i'm glad you can see beyond my "crudeness" :p
