okay, you said you want help disabling the firewall

first: the firewall would have absolutely nothing to do with you not being able to JOIN servers
second: it will however affect ppl being able to join YOUR SERVERS

FIXABLE: Go into your hard drive and into the search thingy and type the name of your firewall in an "all words search" then once the name comes up click it, file extension should be .cfg change it according to the firewall and then that should fix your problem. I'm good o_O

I've to disagree again ... I think there're much forum members who aren't good with pcs ... so your solution is **** ... it also isn't the best to search every *.cfg ... if you change something wrong your firewall goes crazy ... sorry ... but I won't recommend to do this

additional if you've got a firewall it has a visual menu ... so use it ... open your firewall menu and goto options/ preferences/ settings ... disable startup settings
I think most current firewalls add themself into the systemtray (bar next to clock) ... if your firewall is inside of it, right click and options/ preferences/ settings
I don't really know much firewalls ... but if it's a user-friendly firewall there's an entry in systemtray-icon right-click-menu (damn word(s)) called something like "disable" and "enable" ... use them if you just wanna disable it for a short while

I hope I could help both of you

There should be an advanced option that allows you to open up ports, all you have to do is open up 27015 and 27016 and your problems should be solved. If you need more help contact me on AIM - Phatslugga1000 or MSN - [email protected]

this is only if you want to host a server ... and I didn't saw much Firewalls you can open up ports ... I more think you're talking about routers
btw ... if you'Re turning the firewall off, there's no need of opening ports :p
additional ... HL only uses 27015 ... I havend linked 27016 to my PC ... and I can start servers
