Farcry by TimTheEnchantor

Description
--------------------------------------------------------------

I've always wanting to do one of these, especially on this scale. To really understand how much fun this was and how odd it was from not trying to correct a face, to instead perfecting a scenery. It was indeed lots of fun. After about an off and on snack eating sherade, I decided I might as well finish it. I wanted it to be really cool and look just totally awesome, but I couldnt very well do that if it's my first one. Right? Right.

Alot of you might notice that its a shocker from my usual works, but I mean, I'm not some weird kid stuck on that stuff. I find peaceful music, and peaceful art to be a good blend. Especially with Moby(I think he's good). I wanted to show everyone that Im not just some kid who is stuck on one medium of art. That's all you guys see from me, so I decide I might as well learn other types of artwork and mediums and just LEARN. So here I am.. learning, making more of myself each day, and I am enjoying every bit of it.

I might make more and make prints out of my artwork, but I seriously doubt anyone would buy them. I don't know. I have alot of stuff going on, so making this image was a huge step in just mellowing out. I need to do this more often!

Ok enough of me blabbering, here's the image. Please note that I did not expect my .psd file to be 243 megs .. but thank god the .jpg came out less than 5 megs. So please, beware 56kers , but look at it anyway. I spent a good deal of time and had fun with it. I know there isnt as much detail as alot of you might see from other people, but this again, was my first space-art. There will be more to come! Trust me!

Enjoy guys.

Specs:
Photoshop 7.0
.PSD FILE: 243 megs
.JPG FILE: 2.8 megs
Time: 3.5 hrs.
Layers: 186.

*spits mouthfull of coffee on screen* WHAT?! Wooo... there's a lesson for me to learn. The most layers i've evered used on PSP or Photoshop was 10 o_O

Shimmery goodness is the word that comes to mind. If only looking up into the sky at night were that wonderful...

I think the amount of stars is good. It isn't unrealistic because I have seen stars like that once when the sky was unbelievably clear.

I don't buy the transition from the water to the stars. It looks incomplete there for some reason. And I've said it before, I will say it again: people, you don't need that border. Just because it's become an artistic convention due to bizarre poster design does not mean you should do it. Be the shepherd not the sheep.

That said though, considering this is your first dive into the starscape I think you did a really good job. As far as digital painting goes I've never tried this, so I'm not altogether sure of the logistics. It still looks very nice, there's some nice blending of textures going on that are quite believable. The two things that I don't like: 1)the planet/moon doesn't look circular which I think takes away from the effect. 2)The individual stars still look a little too copy/paste. There's not enough variation of size, brightness, and spacing for it to look natural.

Stick with it though, I have a feeling some good things will come from it.

I'm gonna give you props just for being able to manage that many layers and dealing with a file that huge.

Oh, and the image is awesome too! :D
