The Sky's the limit bro. There is nothing you need to know before playing, go have fun. For Archers, Dark Elfs or Wood Elfs will do.

Since everybody is making such a big fuss about this game i decided to try it myself(PC version). Yesterday i killed my first dragon(cowardly shooting arrows from the stone tower with the help of 3 or 4 other NPCs, lame i know).
Ok so back to the game... soundtrack and environment quality are really nice, it gives a nice feeling. The story seems to be good.
Since this is the first TES game that i've played more than one level i find it a little confusing.. not knowing the old story and all but it's not an important issue because there're a lot of in-game books to read(for the ones interested).
One thing that i don't enjoy is the camera; the 3rd person camera to be more exact because i rarely play in 1st person camera. It's to damn close even when you unsheathe your weapon. If there's a fix for it i would really like to know it.
Another thing that i don't like is the mouse sensitivity but i kinda fixed that with the patch and some tweaking.

Overall, from what i've managed to play so far, it seems to be a good game but not as great as everyone says(although i love the main theme :x ).
Maybe i have to play more to tell, who knows.

If you are only playing the main quest, you are doing it wrong.
Explore, and talk to literally everyone. Also, try to use fast travel as less as possible, there are several events you can miss out on by fast travel.
Also try out different stuff, anything, like say, smithing.

Use your mouse scrolling to control the camera distance.

Edit: Both general and performance tweaking and optimizations through http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide

And a couple of third person animation fixes,

Yah-huh.

I can't wait either. Stuff like this will make modders really beef up the quality. Skyrim Nexus will always be the main sites for mods, but alot of modders will see some kind of reward in being on the Skyrim Workshop, and therefore polish their releases.

Rumors of the special surprise being a high res texture update. About time, I can only put of my shenanigans for so long.

Anything they release will be out-done by the community 10x over...so I would hope it's something like re-coded Multi-threading support and it can make use of more than two threads. :p

Along with optimized x86 code, not x87, by default, so no need for the HAL mod.

Creation Kit is so small. 38MB, lol.

And yeah, the high res texture pack is pretty bad from what I've heard. Any high res mod by the community is better...already.

They are the uncompressed original textures. And for those wanting the same art style in better quality, its the best there is. Modder's textures just don't have the same feel.

They only re-texture 27% of the stuff. Modders have been picking at it since release and found only 27% of the games textures are replaced with this "HD pack"
