Dont just pick out the crappy DBZ games -_- What about Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors, that game was pretty fun and had great graphics. I wonder why Atari wont push more money into developing decent DBZ games though... It's already a given that the game will be a best seller, would be a wise investment IMO.
Legendary Super Warriors... sorry, remind me again which game that was. Was that one of the SNES games?

But yeah, DBZ games have had some lows and highs. DBZ: Buuku Tougekki (Supersonic Warriors) in my opinion has been the best game in the series of games released under the DBZ title.

LSW was a GBC game, turn based battling :S

Meh, not going to rent this now. It's got too much stick from everyone and everywhere.

This is the kind of game where you question the developer's efforts.

1. It only goes to the Cell Saga, when it could have easily included the Buu Saga.
2. It lacks any depth as far as combat goes, and leaves you realizing the every enemy, regardless of hyped strength, falls for the same routine combos.
3. If you actually try, you can basically dodge everything at will.
4. The camera makes even Capcom look good.
5. The levels are very small, and you are basically stuck fighting enemies in an invisible pipe that limits you from exploring the areas as if they were an actual world, until you fight the boss, which is basically an invisible octagon at this point. I also noticed you could only fly 20 feet above the air (to scale) and to fly higher you had to jump off of higher terrain.
6. I think even Dragonball Budokai 3's "Dragon World" has more depth.
7. I beat the game in less than 2 hours (I think I already said the game was short)
8. Your stuck being either Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, (only in 2 player mode) Adult Gohan (only in 2 player mode), Future Trunks, and Young Gohan.
9. They summarize the DBZ storyline too vaguely (as if the story wasn't vague enough already)
10. After beating the game, and rubbing my eyes to question that I had beat the game this fast, my brain started making fun of me. Let's just say he'll never raise his voice at me again. *cracks knuckles*

It's safe to say that this is a SNES 2D platformer...

trying to convince the consumer it really was a 3D Action/Adventure game.

In a word: no. I'm getting tired how Atari keeps rehashing DBZ.... And how they're so damned lame that they do the ENTIRE SEASON, except for the VERY LAST SAGA WHICH HAPPENS TO BE THE BEST.

For someone new the series it might be ok. But for someone like me -- who's been waiting for the past 9 or 10 years to see the end of the series (but nooooo, my TV station likes giving me JUST A LITTLE BIT FARTHER in the series, and then yanking away to the beginning... They got all the episodes, but then mess with the progression!!! Damned Canadian television... Cartoon Network atleast finished the damned series) -- will be too tired to bother with it. I dared to bother with DBZ Budokai, and it wasn't worth it... I coulda gotten better, even if it was a christmas gift.

I'm tired of the series, really. I'll live it out just a bit longer to see the end, but that'll be it for me. I'm not gonna waist my money on some very very late games.... If these had come out in like the year 2000, yeah, they'd all be worth it. I have tons more fun with the fighting games for the Super Famicom than I do for Gamecube... And I doubt that these sagas will be different.

Cuz they're greedy bastards. They know it'll be a best seller. They expect little kids to go to their mommies and say "I WANT THAT!!! ," and so they split it into multiple games as a "series" cuz those little kids wont feel complete WITHOUT the entire series. It's another way of squeezing money out of the consumer.

It makes me wonder if there's a line in the Beta Testers contract that states they're not allowed to say the game sucks or point out obvious flaws and bugs because it might offend the development team. Either that or they had no clue how to make a game and it was a case of "We have models, skins, anims, sounds and levels, all connected with some code, let's sell this game for it is complete."

Not so much that. I just think it's a matter of having a target consumer: 6-13 year olds who don't know any better. 6-13 year olds who don't really have an understanding of what it takes to get a good game. This is who Atari wants to buy the game, and that's who keeps those rich *******s churning out the same junk.

I read an article in Shonen Jump where they interview the development team, and pimp the game. Apparently, they were all very knowledgeable about DBZ, and chose to do a DBZ game themselves...

Meh, if they just made it look like they didn't know anything about DBZ and were assigned the job to make this game, then it wouldn't be so bad. But after reading that article, I nearly laughed out loud.

I'm glad I passed this one up.

It's good to be paranoid.

There's only a few DBZ games I think are good, namely Budokai 3 (the best of the Budokais) and Supersonic Warriors (GBA). It's sad that, after all these years, DBZ is still dishonored with so many lame games, and it's also sad that, say, the ESF Team can create something far more interesting than people who get paid to make games.

Well Dragon Ball GT for the Ps1 is a pretty good game, although a bit slow in terms of combat
-have the Old Us version of GT

and i liked Legends as well.
-have the Jap Legends

Ultimate Battle 22 had a good deal of characters, but i just hate the effects for energy blasts (they are like Streetfighter fire balls)
-have Jap UB22

-but yeah Sagas is a pretty large letdown

The original Japanese ones for the SNES that were never released in NorthAm were fantastic, too... well, Butoden 1 had control and gameplay issues, Butoden 2 was probably the best, however very short, and Butoden 3 was just rehashed 2 with horrible sprites, crappy controls, and Majin/Buu Saga painted over it. But then there was Hyper Dimension!!! Aaaahhh, the beauty of Hyper Dimension... still short, but ubah fun!

Then there were the 3 rpgs....
RPG #1: Good game overall, however nobody ever translated, PLUS, it's hard to get into if you dislike the original DB
RPG #2: Boring, and only got to the Frieza saga
RPG #3: Very dumb card game... but entertaining, and longer, and harder... But it was hard to get through by the time you were ready to fight Frieza.

ok its time for my opinion. so now, dont take anything i say personally. Alright, what is wrong with you people? Sagas was certainly not the best game on the market, but UB22 was absolute crap. it looked like it was released for SNES, but its for PS. the graphics are aweful, the flying looks terrible, the only combos there are is crappy, and the blasts look like a blob. the buildup mode and characters would be enjoyable if the game werent so crappy. the only old consol game i deem playable (other then LSW for GBC) was final bout. NOW THERE WAS A GAME. large scale power struggles, good music and opening, fun modes (and golden oozaru =D) good music too, but i cant say i enjoyed the combos thouraly. now, Sagas is a pretty good game. i will now dispell some of the stupid "facts" about it.

1. Myth: the bosses are beatable with one hand tied behind your back
Fact: ok, i must admit that in the original story mode they are easy. However, if you would have ever taken your time to beat the game, the unlocked mode Pendulum, makes everything so much harder. in addition, you can also choose from every possible character costume and power in the game, along with Bardock, Adult Gohan(from trunks's future), Yamcha, Tien, Krillen, Broly, and others. now, when i fight the bosses in Pendulum, it took me 30-40 minutes to beat them. oh and dont think that this was from me dieing over and over. i never died once. i was busting Raditz with advanced combo after advanced combo, and his life went off a small smidgen. i was quite amazed at it. so dont pass rumors until you see everything the game offers

Myth: only 5 playable characters, and you cant even choose it? LAME
Fact: uhhh there are actually about 15-16 playable characters, and 5 costumes for all the main characters.

Myth: combos are so easy that a trained rodent could pull them off
Fact: once again, SEE WHAT THE GAME HAS TO OFFER! the hardest combo is about 10 long, and requires alteration between buttons quite often. memorizing them is even harder!

Myth: Super Saiyan is so hard to get, and even harder to sustain
Fact: ok, thats practically true. but consider this, SSJ is so over powered in this game that.... well remember when i talked about Pendelum bosses? when im ssj, i can fight them like regular bosses.

Myth: boss fights take no stratagy
Fact: let me put this as simply as possible. Yes they do. every boss has a distinct pattern and a way to beat it, making the game fresh

Myth: Henchmen suck, and are too generic!
Fact: the whole game is going to suck for you if you do the same combo over and over again. try doing something to keep it fresh. there are three basic henchemen in front of you. heres what you do
1'st henchmen: run up and give the most powerful combo you have.
2'nd henchmen: do a basic kick combo to send him flying
3'rd henchmen: attack him with an energy attack, to obliterate him.

alright, there are more but i cant remember all the myths. here are the things i agree with

1. the story mode is no where near as extensive as possible
2. not enough challange in one player to keep you going
3. the camera sucks real bad.

thats it. ill be back with my full review later. its already typed up, so it shouldnt take long to make it here.

Punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch...very strategic =\

I might rent this gaem again though after hearing the 15-16 playable characters thing though, I thought it was just the five from Legacy of Goku 2. Could you list them?

yup, and here they are.

Goku
Vegeta
Gohan young
Gohan Teen
Gohan Adult
Gohan Adult(trunks future)
Broly
Yamcha
Tien
Krillen
Bardock
Piccolo
Trunks teen
Mirai No Trunks

oh and for the boss stratagy thing, heres a good captain ginyu stratagy

at the beggining of the battle Cap Ginyu will most likely either shoot and energy blast at you, or he will burrow under ground. if he blasts, simply dodge it. if he burrows, fly away as fast as possible, as he will follow you around, and his jumping out of the ground will hurt you even in the air. when he eventually pops out of the ground, immediatly start your energy attack and slam him with it. afterwards, you might get the chance to hit him up close with a combo. then repeat the process until ginyu is defeated.
