Doom3 tweaking

You people maybe did see it allready, or tried it, but i'm gonna post it anyway.

I notice in doom3, when you are playing, and you open a door, it stutters.
That can be nasty, becouse the framerate drops from 50 / 60 to 2, and 1 seconds later its good again, but i find it anoying.

To gain peformance, Go to the doom3/base folder, and uppack some pk4 files, with winrar.

Only pak000, pak001, pak 002, pak003, and pak004.pk4.
Ofcourse, your will lose some space, as it takes 3 GB.

Then if you unpacked them, delete or move your pk4 files.
Now you will find that the game will run smoother, and loads faster.
What you can do to, when you did this, is go to doomconfic.gfc, and chance the image_chache from 28, to 100

Example, if you have 1 GB of memory turn it to 256, if you have 521 MB ram, turn it to 128.
And becouse doom3 doesn't need to unpack the pk4 files, it goes allot faster.

I'm testing this right now, and i hope it works.

Use it only at your own risk, it isn't dangerous, and many people have done this trick, but i don't want people to blame me that i screwed up their computer. :fight:

P.S. it may take a while to uppack all those files.

unpacking the pk4 files doesnt really lead to a huge increase in performance

it only helps a small bit but upping the catch really does help so be sure do that asap

well i have a program i made that lets u edit how many people can join a multiplayer game on your server, if the mods will let me post ill be happy to cause im not sure if they would consider it a warez or not...

Well, i played Doom3, and i must say, its much better now.

No more stuttering with opening doors, and switching to scenes.
Loading a level takes longer some times, but the gameplay is smooth.

I've heard about this one and I also downloaded this one...not sure if it works.
Anyhoo:

In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

Find the line:

seta image_cacheMegs "32"

I changed 32 to 96.

I got a nice boost in performance. I dunno if the tweak worked or not (maybe my machine did something wierd, have no clue), so I'm just seeing if this works for others as well, or if a different setting works better than others.
