In the course of sending out a press release stating its active recruitment for the project, id Software has formally announced the development of Doom 4. No details on the game were forthcoming, but id is evidently seeking the industry's best and brightest to craft the presumably high-budget, high-tech shooter.

"DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth," said id CEO Todd Hollenshead in the press release. "It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles."

Perusing the "jobs" section of www.idsoftware.com reveals numerous open positions in various disciplines, including vacancies for a lead designer, an art director, and a lead animator.

Stay tuned to GameSpy for coverage on Doom 4 as it becomes available.

Meh, honestly while doom 3 was a good game it wasn't, in my opinion, mind blowing. I mean all they did was create an awesome looking game but as far as gameplay I felt it wasn't something to praise. In other words if you change the graphics while keeping everything else the game would just be an okay game. So i'm not looking forward to doom 4.

I'm indifferent. Their games are usually just showcases for the engine, so I'm not expecting much.

I feel the same way. Doom 3 was fun but a little overhyped.

I can't say I liked the huge contrast between light and dark either.

Get off my couch
Bring on the ddwo!

Instead of shooting demons to pieces you wormhole them back to hell!

Or get a special attachment that summons demons to fight for you!

Also for an extra $50 you get an unlock key so you can shoot and use a torch AT THE SAME TIME!

Doom 3 was nice but I preferred Quake 4. I'm waiting more eagerly for Quake 5.
