Just wondering if you think Barack Obama will benefit or hurt (imo, destroy) our country. A simple "Yes" or "No" will suffice... no need for political arguments.

He's great. I dunno what he's like at home for you guys, but he's helping the world like America again. After seeming like an bullying, greedy, meddler for the past 8 years you finally are losing that stigma.

I don't think he'll hurt the nation, but we'll see. I certainly don't agree with right wings who claim that Obama will turn our nation socialist or who claim that Obama is making America look weak by wanting to *gasp* use diplomacy.

I'd rather have Obama destroy USA than letting McCain legalize illegal aliens.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think both McCain and Obama were for amnesty.

He's been excellent so far. The only legitimate complaint I've seen tossed at him is whether or not he's going to give the go ahead to prosecute the douches from the last administration.

Well, there's that Pain, but I'm also not liking his whole "Forced volunteerism" plan. That, and that he wants to increase the length of the school year.

Hmm, I've never heard about that. I'm not surprised, though, I never watch the news. How much longer does he plan to make the school year?

But to answer Walmart's question, I think he's great so far.

I think there is a large difference between "forced" and "incentive". From what I understand, if you choose to volunteer to help your community, you'll be rewarded in some manner. It seems to me about the same as having a tax write off when giving to charity.

I don't know if more school days will solve anything that better teachers won't, but I certainly wouldn't consider it a negative in his column.

*edit*
I also fixed the thread title typo.

I scanned the internet for a good two minutes attempting to find an unbiased view on the issue of mandatory volunteerism (What a ****ing oxymoron), but yeah, no. From what I know (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong), college students would get paid, high school students would just be forced to do it without the cash money. I do believe it's not mandatory for college students, but it would be for high school. Again, I'm doing this by memory so someone that actually knows filling us in would be great.

I'll agree that diplomacy needs to be used, but when you shrug off the PM of Great Britain, show him little repsect, then turn around and bow to the king of Saudi Arabia and carry on like its highschool with latin american dictators who give you books insulting your country you are not showing any backbone at all. There needs to be a happy medium, someone who knows how and when to use the clenched fist. Bush didn't get it right, and it looks like Obama is failing in the other direction.

As far as Socialism, its already here cupcake. He refused to take back TARP money, and wants to switch from preffered stock in all of the nations banks to common stock.

Common stock lets you vote, it implies ownership. When he changes that over, and he has said he will, socialism is here. The US government will own all of the major banks, all lines of credit, and it will control the way the US does buisness from now on. That is the very definition of socialism.

Another note, that volunteerism sounds eerily like forced civil service, like they did in Soviet Russia.

Finally, the prosecution of the exiting administration is really, really bad news for America. The **** will really hit the fan when it comes public that democratic party leaders were not only breifed on the methods used at Gitmo, but were also in favor of it . . . until the public found out. Reid and Pelosi were pointed out as two such leaders. That would be a serious blow to Obama's own party. When people point at the previous administration, I think they forget that nothing got through without Democratic votes.

My personal opinion is that the current congress is so currupt (and it has been for many years) that it will do most of the damage to the country. The ginormous porkulous bill is a good example. Not Obama's fault, but he didn't exactly step up to his campaign promise and say, lets get special interests out of this bill. That being said, I think he's doing more harm in the long run than he looks like he's doing, but its the dem supermajority thats hurting the country more than he is.

Well... considering all the stock and loan fraud... it seems that freedom has become obsolete.

I really don't care much about socialism coming to America, but I will respectfully disagree with your assertion that Socialism has infact come here. The only reason I'm actually making this post is to kindly ask you not to call me cupcake.

They better changed the lyrics of "The Star Strangled Banner", because the US is clearly, not as free as it used to be.

I don't care what anyone says, but mandatory volunteerism is extremely retarded. It kills the point of.. well.. volunteerism. I haven't searched around much, but has this **** actually passed?

If it hasn't, it probably will. I'm sure they'll name the bill something like "PROTECT AMERICAN FAMILIES AND VALUES FIRST ACT" or something equally misleading and retarded.

I don't think people forget. The Democratic Congress' approval rating was lower than Bush which says a lot. Personally, I think we should have term limits for Congress, it's asinine that we don't.

While I don't think he has shown a strong relationship with Great Britian as recent president have, I do not think that he has shown any disrespect. He's well liked here and gets almost nothing but praise from our news coverage, not that I'm saying thats a good thing, but we are in no way finding ourselves having a bad relationship with America.

I don't think he's bending over for any nation, but instead of broadcasting the "don't **** with us or else" message, he's taken more of a "lets work together to resolve our differences" approach. America has given a rather hostile and intolerant disposition to such nations in the past 8 years, unless they see some kind of gesture of good will they aren't going to be won over.

In my opinion, the economical changes are more due to the failing of the economic system as it was, rather than underhand socialism.

This GIVE thing seems to be a cross between nation service and community work. I have mixed feelings about this, I think its a good and bad thing, personally though I would like this in my country, as crazy as that sounds when I'm unsure about it, but I think it would benefit the current generation of delinquents that have been spawned as teenage parents, with a lack of respect, and lack of education. It's not national service exactly, you're not required to go to war, its basically a 3 month training course teaching you how to take care during a disaster of some sort, and also helping out in the community. I assume it is a; do it when you can within the allotted years thing, but I'm not sure, if it is however, it'd be a great thing to have, due to the fact that having done such a thing would really improve your CV/resume and with 18-25 being the hardest age to find a decent job, it would greatly increase your chances of getting one. A lot of my friends do volunteer work here, due to the fact it makes their CV look good, it not only gives a good impression but also indicates your work ethic. While it seems like a none optional conscription, In a way its no more optional than school is. It seems to teaches quite valuable information, mixes ethnic groups in a way that may not occur normally and gets you involved with the community.
