Custom avatar

Heres the thing.
I want to know how to put a custom avatar in, like a gif or diff pic, but it seems you can only add avatars from a selection of 34, but i know u can do it cause ive seen ppl with them.
So can som1 pls help me?

now try it again...there should be an option now that allows you to upload an avatar
