I don't know if there is a possibility to do this with halflife,,,
(depends on source)

Why not code your mod to accept 32 bit textures like

Tenebrae
and
Quake2Max,,, <------ (this mod has almost similar functionality to quake3, better in areas)....!!!!

If you did that your maps, models and gfx would look much nicer.

I doubt it would be to much of an overall for a serious coder

(there's a suggestion section)

first: HL supports 32 bpp ... add "-32bpp" into your shortcut

second: why do you need 32 bpp ??? 16 are enough ... and for those who havn't good comps, would it be the hell

ESF is visually the best HL mod !!! (my opinion)
but that means, too, that the fps drops ...

I have got a AMD XP 1500+ with 512 DDR-RAM and a GF2 Ti ... and sometimes it is lagging for me !!!

16 bpp = 65536 colors
32 bpp = 4294967296 colors

that's a big difference ... I think 16 bpp are enough colors

fair enough but if you coded 32 bit images you could have

alphamap images
possible shader functions,
op codes :)

I understand the performance lag on a system, gfx always has a price to pay :p

I still don't think it's a good suggestion ...

shader functions ... eh ... if you mean shadow ... this isn't possible in HL ...
play Splinter Cell or Doom3 if you want better shadows

If you understand the performance lag, why didn't you make this thread ???

I think they shouldn't change it ... ESF is great as it is now (B1 and B1.1)

I am just offering a suggestion to improve visual performance, quality drops are certainly significant between engines.. Everyone has there own opinion, if your happy with half-lifes / esf's 5 year old colour palette :)

*sighs*
The halflife engine doesn't support 16 or 32 color textures. And no, we'll not throw away our code and make it again in another engine.
