i'm really confused on how do we play this game some people say you need half-life some say you don't need it and they say u need steam and they say you don't need it so can someone show me how to play this game like give me a guide or just tell me what i need to play and how to make it work please and thank you

You need Half-Life and you need Steam. It's possible to play without Steam, but you'll be jumping through hoops on your own. There's no cost to play ESF through Steam with a legitimate Half-Life CD key, so don't bother trying to get around it.
