So, weve all heard and/or seen the new movie, White Noise. I havent seen it yet, but I stumbled across its website. Im not really interested in the movie all that much, but in the idea of it - communicating with the dead. EVP is a common way to communicate with the dead. Theres also the method of connecting your video camera to a tv, then recording the tv and getting the feedback and what not and then seeing faces or what not... Im getting the chills just by writing about this stuff. I am a strong believer in ghosts, spirits, souls - however you wish to call them, and this stuff is looking really attractive to me. However, the safety of these is a conern, and after viewing the safety tab of the site http://aaevp.com/ I decided Im gonna pass on trying to communicate with the dead, because I will probably be scared ****less of low level entities.

Post your opinions, thoughts, experiences even?

Safety? I've never heard of anybody more than "scratched" by a ghost, and the truth behind those occurrences is questionable...

Ever seen Ghostbusters? That was a great movie. This is a low end (like every horror film), poorly advertised (came accross it while actually looking up white noise), horror flick. Pass.

....who ya gonna call.

White noise is not the noise created by ghosts. White noise means "background noise," as white is a synonym for background.

You can create white noise easily, just place a tape recorder in your home, and let it run til the tape runs out, then play it back. Even the most mundane of sounds can sound like a ghost. Even better yet, remove the filter of the tape recorder, and now record, and you'll get even more "ghostly" noises and voices talking to you.

Half of it is mundane noises. The other half is an excitement or fear that makes the mind believe that something is a voice talking.

I have quite an open mind about most things (see the 'Can You Ascend' thread) but not this, mainly because of the concrete evidence.

I'm not going to make this a history lesson, but anyway, the first people who became famous through their supposed 'psychic' ability admitted several years later that it was all done through a process called 'Cold Reading' which, although involves an advanced (though not paranormal) understanding of the psyche, does not have anything to do with ghosts, spirits or anything related. It merely plays upon the insecurities and hopes of the person who hopes to speak to the deceased.

For an example, in a room of 50 people, the psychic or medium could say 'I'm getting a Paul...perhaps Pauline'. That could be any of the 50 people there, or anyone that they know. After that you could examine their dress or demeanour to deduce a number of factors about them. After that it's fact-based guesswork. If a person believes they'll speak to the dead, they'll make the guesses fit the truth in their head, thus creating the illusion that they are doing so.

I don't really have the right understanding to explain it properly but that's the gist. The people who started the belief publicly admitted it was an intricate hoax, and even wrote books about it.

Also, (not really proof but more of an 'aside') last night Derren Brown demonstrated cold reading to a handful of skeptics and got some serious results, after which he explained the whole thing.

Acually guys, I watched the Maury show yesterday, and the voices from White Noises are acually real voices of the dead, and that video camera method is also true too.

I've never really beleived in ghosts or anything like that. There's never been anything to prove it so why beleive in it? I beleive that there could be a possibilty, but until I get some proof, that's all it is, a possibility. Also as Zeonix said, Maury isn't a very good source...

Actually, white noise is mathematical model for noise with a completely random intensity on all frequencies. There is no way to generate white noise yourself.

Think about it. When you die, would you really want to be reduced to a state where you can do nothing but float around unseen, watching all those whose lives you were part of, without you? I'm not religious one bit, so that probably adds a little to my opinion, but I don't believe in an afterlife. When you're gone, you're gone. Lights out, game over.

However, no one knows what really happens when you die. No one can. So posting an idea, then proclaiming that your idea is right and everyone else's is wrong is absurd. I'm not trying to do that, and anyone who tries to do so, keep that in mind.

The movie sounds entertaining. I haven't seen it, but I'd like to. I doubt it'd interest me enough to play static backwards and upside down listening for hidden messages, but that's just me.

heh have any of you played that board game, ouija board? when you play with 2 players, you talk to a dead soul, you can ask him things, they can lie too. you can also ask them to put on a different soul like a friend. you can also ask them things that having to do with your personal life. like ask them if your girl friend is cheating on you. although, you let go of the pannels until the spirit says bye. but even if you do let go without it saying bye, the one remaining to touch the board, as legend says it the soul goes into that person. one time i held a party, we played it. i asked the spirit who he was and he didnt respond. so i asked him if he was real. he responded yes. i said prove it and the lights in the house turned off. startled i let go of the board and it went into my friend. his brother told me he was screaming in the middle of the night. his eyes were blood shot as well. you can use this as a good ghost story, imo.

you may want to watch yourself when you mess with the dead. terrible things can happen.

I have to sadly say I never had an experience with the Ouija board that was real. Everytime Ive done it with someone, one of the people there moved it. Also, how can you use one method of communication with the dead to conclude that it isnt possible to get in touch with them/that there is no afterlife. Im aware of the process of cold reading, and yes I dont believe those stupid tv shows in which you "get in touch with your loved ones." However I do believe some part of you goes on, wether it be just the fact that youre mass and mass cannot be destroyed, or wether it be you going on to the next world - whatever world that may be. Again, I would love to try these things out, but I believe the disasters that could happen are far too great to risk. And Furr, one thing you should NEVER do is ask a spirit to prove itself in anyway - thats an invitation to the living world, and it could mean horrible things for you/your loved ones/the house youre staying at. Again, no-one can actually say if the afterlife exists or not, unless someone ever contacts the dead and its absolutely confirmed. However, like Ive stated before, I am a great believer of the ghost world/afterlife, and the fact it was stated that people have had conversations with the voices coming from replaying white noise makes me a greater believer. However nothing is 100% proven yet, and I guess we all just have to wait until we experience something ourselves... or die.

I've got an open mind for this sort of thing, but I think the Ouji board is BS for most people... they say it's just everbody unconciously directing the thing towards an answer.

"ghostly" voices on white noise recordings can also be from radio signals that leaked into the white noise recording

You misunderstand. White noise is the term given to "ghostly" and "apparitious," sound. But, it's been proven (even on live camera numerous times) that you can create the same kind of noises on a tape recorder, or another method. In fact, many tape recorded "white noises," are simply sounds that were picked up by a recorder. Another half of it is imagination.

If you want to hear something, alot of the time, you'll hear what you want to hear. If I was to record my house, and get sounds sounding like something's saying things like, "get out," or "you will suffer." Well I know that it's just the imagination playing tricks. And how would I know? Because we bought this house new. But, every building tends to make noise, even when noone's around to hear it. And a tape recorder can pick up on those sounds. And it can sound really ghoulish.

The media's creating fiction, based on fiction. White noise is just noise, and people with an overactive imagination. I believe ghosts exist, but I believe that white noise is false. Might sound conflicting, but it's my oppinion.

The imagination can create mountains out of mole hills.
