Cannot run ESF, need help

Hi, my problem is that I cannot run ESF.
I don't use steam, just HL.
Installed HL then the 1,3 beta.

The exact error message is as follows:

ERROR: Can't parse Half-Life/ESF_OPENBETA/fxscript/particle_format.xml"!

Yup, you need steam and a valid half-life copy through steam as well.

Yes that error happens when you try to run Half Life without STEAM.

Its caused cause your Half Life is outdated. So you need STEAM to update it for you, since thats the only place you can get HL patches for versions after 1.1.1.0

Offcourse if you want to use STEAM to update your Half Life youll need a legal Half Life.

So you need a Half Life you actually bought from a store. But you can allso buy it from STEAM itself with paypall or a credit card.
