Yes you should be fine at a low resolution. It doesn't take much to support Half-Life ingame, but I'm more concerned about your processor chugging because of Steam.

my litle brother has a intel celeron 1700 and steam takes ages to start... (i have a amd athlon xp 2000+ and it takes a few seconds) so don`t count on it that it will go fast... than again.. my little brother is always screwing up his PC so i give you a change of 40% that you can play it.

I wouldn't know about ESF since I've upgrade to a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz...

I DID have a Celeron 735 Mhz previously, and low resolutions (512x360, I think), and I got about 5 FPS constantly in Natural-Selection... :\

I get higher FPS in Natural-Selection than I do ESF.

Strange, i used to get about 20-30 fps on my old 800mhz p3 with a voodoo3 2000.
Lol, now mine sits at a constant 72fps.

For the most part, just about anyone should be able to run it in 800 x 600 or 640 x 480. I have a PIII 933 with a voodoo 5 63 MB PCI card. I can run 1.2 in 800 x 600 with max settings and still get 30-60 fps variable. It's still very playable.

Well it will run, but it wont be at its greatest. I use a P3 667mhz and it runs fine...however steam does make things "chug" a bit as grOOvy said. You get used to it though :/

In order to get more speed out of it you can play in on normal HL as opposed to steam, but remember there is no official support for it so if it crashes every 30 secs its ure own problem :p

Exactly. And if melee doesnt work in software, or the hud doesnt work in under 640x480, it's not our problem ^_^

Its nice of you all to brag off about your computers...but it doesn't help the guy, and im sure i speak for most when i say we don't care.

I used to have virtually the same specs as you, and i used to be able to run in 1024x768 and get around 30-40fps. Only thing thats different is that i had a worse video card, so you should be fine. Then again, this was before steam was made, soooo you'll have to see how that runs, and if it fails, you'll still have WON while its still up.

My Amd Athlon 900 Mhz, 384 Sdram, Ati radeon 9700 pro. My fps fluctuate between 25-40, on cell games. You'll notice a drop in FPS if you have a low end system on some of the newer maps, since they make use of a lot of env_models and high texturing(if you choose to use it) My Video card is great but it's bottlenecked like crazy. This is just a guess but.

Minimum:
1-5 Multiplayer, 700+ Mhz Processor, 256+ Sdram, Geforce 2/Radeon Card with (32)64 Mb Ram. 800/600 Resolution(640/480 with more players), High textures off.

Recommended:
1-12 Players, Multiplayer. 1000+ Mhz Processor, 256+ DDR ram, Geforce/Radeon Card with (64)128 Mb Ram. 1024/768 Resolution. (High Texturing may drop 10 +/- FPS)

Probably the same, its your video card that's holding you back.

So Freedom, do you think that i should get a better GFX card? And if so, what kind would be best? My computer is in need of an upgrade anyway. And is it easy to install?

PS- I plan on getting more memory for it too. so basically an all around upgrade? any suggestions?

There is no way windows XP runs on a machine like that.

Back onto topic...the specs for half-life are on the game's box. Since this mod cannot exceed the HL engine's specs, anything above the original's recommended should be fine.
