C++ Compiler and linker.

I have started to learn C++ and the book im reading from says I'll need a comiler and a linker for C++. Problem is, it doesn't list any thatI could get, so I have no idea what I'm looking for when I go to look for programming software.

The point of this is, does anyone know any compilers and/or linkers that I could get? I cant do any of the practices the book gives.

If you wanna start the lazy way, get yourself Visual Studio from MS

If you want a free compiler, you could use Dev C++ ( http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html ), which uses the gcc compiler (gnu project). The editor itself is quite ok, sometimes a bit annoying though.
