I am inclined to agree. I havn't tried it, but from your descriptions, its not worth your time, nor the stress to even bother fixing. Play a different / better game.

You want to know why people constantly bring Doom 3 into your threads and compare it? ignorant lines like that above. Most of us love HL2 like you love Doom 3, when you start throwing insults around at the HL2 team, the Source engine, and any game associated with it, it pisses us off. You're not just asking for help, you're trying to take as many shots at the game as you can while you're at it. Seriously man, it's cool to ask for help, but every time you do, you have to start attacking the game and acting like a child about it.

I dont think it makes sense that youre getting all of these errors. Try to re-install? I dont know, see if any of that helps.

I have only one thing to say:

16 megabyte sound cache.

If I hate Half Life 2 and Source so much then why did I play it? Why'd I go to so much trouble to get it working well? Why do I continue to play Counterstrike and HL2? Why have I uninstalled Doom 3 but not Half-Life 2?

Look, I'm sorry if my occasional smart remark towards the HL2 team upsets you man, but the facts are really very self-explanatory here. That ONE LINE in this whole thread was hardly an attack at anything. Just a simple smart-ass comment. Has practically nothing to do with what I was talking about, and hardly qualifies as the assault and battery it's made out to be.

That being said, it's seeming pretty clear to me that there's just not much that can be done for this game short of hoping the amateurs that made ity get their **** together and fix it.

The only line in this thread about bashing the HL2 team/engine? Hah, lets sum up all the "disses" or "bashing" remarks JUST in this thread:

"I recall shutting off the 3d skyboxes (stupid ****ing piece of technology right there..."let's add needless polygons to the most visually demanding part of the engine instead of just making some ****ing tall buildings!")"

"...with Valve's allegedly super versatile engine."

"...because apparently only having two models and levels well below hl1's limitations in terms of size is what the source engine needs to work optimally"

"...because neither did HL2, and yet, they didn't really use these phenomenal textures either way"

"Gabe must've helped code this POS himself."

Now, I have to respond to this -

"I have only one thing to say:

16 megabyte sound cache."

Whats your point? Evidently it doenst need that much sound cache. Nearly all stuttering is caused from the game loading information on the fly.

Im not crying about you bashing HL2. Like not many people, I dont give a god damn on what you say about HL2, or its engine when applied to that game. The game works fantasticly for me. Did you try what I told you? I dont think it makes sense that a game will have as many errors as you say it has. Try to reinstall it, if you havent already.

@3D Skyboxes: A shot at Troika, not Valve. Even so...what purpose was there to ever do that? I can think of absolutely no benefit to the game that literally building and aligning a second map on top of the usual one would give other than a performance hit.

@"Allegedly super versatile": that means exactly what it says. It's versatility remains to be seen, as far as I'm concerned.

@the CS: Source comments: I find it interesting that CS works so much better on my machine then all other Source products is all. At least, once I've heard all the sound effects in the game.

@"phenomenal textures": they really aren't that detailed, if you ask me, but this wasn't meant as a stab, it was just a point I was making.

@the Gabe comment: I have no valid point here, I just really hate that ignorant biased self-servient money-hungry unprofessional slob.

@16 megabyte sound cache: This is just a point. This was the standard before we even had 32/64mb RAM machines. A terrible oversight made by doing exactly what I said before--not building a new engine, but plugging physics into the HL1 engine and taking away the limitations of it.

All this being said, almost all of the comments I made are in fairly direct relation to Vampire's performance, which is atrocious. I got Half Life 2 to work just fine after some experimenting; that doesn't mean that I can do the same stuff with Vampire though. It's just a badly laid out game, really.

Vampire ran fine on my computer. I noticed the errors in the console, which we all had to go out of our way to enable, but they certainly didn't affect the game any. The game ran smoothly, but the framerate dropped to about the high thirties in big hubs when raining. Besides the 'technical' aspect of the game, Vampires is fabulous with one exception--the mediocrity of the combat system. The story telling is fantastic, as is the 'immersion' in the world. You feel like you're there and you're dealing with people rather than simple video game characters.

Yeah, it is a real shame that I can't get it to work enjoyably well at this point, because I was really loving it. I was a huge fan of the first one and this one was just great so far, but all the technical issues have made me forcibly turn my back on it.

Oh well...I guess it's on to World of Warcraft.

Right after I beat the amazingly awesome Chronicles of Rid****.

i'm having hte same problems as you guys, and i played it just fine on my dads laptop with lower system specs. wierd thing is half life 2 ran finie for me with no tweaks at all, and vampire seems to lag just randomely, it doesn't seem to be caused by particle affects or a lot of people. If anyone finds anything that makes this game run well please tell me, its a great game but the lag/bugs are annoying.

Ps. MALKAVIANS RRRULLLEEE
