Black Desert is an upcoming MMO from Korean developers Pearl Abyss. It sounds almost too good to be true.P

A preview of the game on MMOCast says it's a "sandbox MMORPG". Specifically, it's promising stuff like resource-gathering, action combat, open-world player vs player battles, castle sieges (with plans for 400 v 400 assaults) and non-instanced housing, which can be shared among friends (you can kut extra keys so they've got somewhere to hang).P

But it goes deeper. It wants to make different parts of the world go through seasons. Winter, for example, will require NPCs to be equipped with warmer clothing, and player stats would take a hit. There won't be teleports at launch. Instead, your mount is an important part of the game, with its own level system.P

Plus, you know, it looks pretty nice.

I'm not gonna lie, visually it looks amazing as well as the gameplay looks great too! I hope it isn't just visually amazing and has a great story and style as well.

Gorgeous, though I'd prefer a sci-fi sandbox MMO. I can also see myself having performance problems with this beauty. I wish to test it if there's ever a CBT/OBT, though I'm gonna be disappointed if there's no greatsword class.

It looked it in the video, but I'm really hoping the combat isn't a stand there and press buttons type of combat. I like the way TERA works how you actually have to aim and move if you want to do well. This game does look pretty amazing, I like how you can have shared houses.

Oh, and I totally want to have my own desert caravan.

It'd be pretty disappointing if it had as little combat dynamics as TERA.

I'm just saying TERA is a little more involved than just standing there and dishing out combos.

Yea I get what you mean. It's better than the generic target + skill/spell mash. In TERA it's aim + skill/spell mash. However having played Vindictus and PSO2, TERA is literally shit in comparison.

...you're comparing the action rpg's to the standard MMO formula? Do I need to explain why that's retarded? I would think it'd be obvious why you can't compare two seperate forms of gameplay.

Yes. Because from what I've seen in the video of this game, it already looks better than TERA in that aspect, and perhaps closer to Vindictus & PSO2.

Then it sounds like it's a different game type and IN YOUR OPINION is better than TERA.

Shit like that is the reason you'll never achieve your life dream of being a world renown game reviewer.

I think I'm missing your point. Initially I was talking to Barney about how I'd be disappointed if BD happened to have battle mechanics similar to TERA's. I'd rather have it somewhat more dynamic and precise, which Vindictus & PSO2 happen to have. And from the video it indeed looks to be somewhat better than TERA, but I can't really judge it all from the video.

DS, TERA, Vindictus & PSO2 are all MMOs, DS & TERA being open world while Vindictus & PSO2 dungeon-based.

My point was just that you have a habit of calling games terrible when it's really just you that doesn't like them. I'm not really adding anything to the overall thread, just calling you on that. I don't even understand how you can compare two games with completely different mechanics to begin with.

I don't like TERA either, but no game is inherently better or worse than it.

Pretty much, but also because it was nonsensical. Kinda like how mentally ill patients tend to be.

It sure is nice that they were brave enough to showcase their texture-pop-ins and distant terrain Z flicker.
Also I call copyright infringement because these guys stole a lot of the RPG elements that I have been developing in the Absolutely Ideal RPG IN MY MIND! Only Inception could answer how the hell they managed to steal that info... and translate it in their language from mine...

Seriously now I can't give too much shit to Korea. Without fail it has consistently kept impressing me in every form of media and entertainment that I'm interested in so I might as well say it. You've won South Korea. You've won. Marry me. If only your sister weren't such complete grinch.

But I did not say grinch that time. What I actually said was a bad word. A very very bad word...

The game is slated for western release in 2015, so we've got a while to go.

And Dark, as long as hleV's opinions doesn't belittle someone, their mothers notwithstanding, he should be able to call the moon pink without having his opinion called retarded. You can say its flawed and whatnot, but ease up on completely invalidating someone's point of view.

As for my thought, I don't see why the combat of games like Vindictus can't be applied to sandbox mmos in general. I know network hardware is a great limiter, but as time goes on that should be less and less of an excuse for having stale gameplay.

While I do understand what you're saying, it wasn't his opinion I was calling retarded. It was the notion of comparing 2 completely seperate games/gamestyles, and calling it a bad game comparatively when it's simply not.

Except that I didn't say TERA was bad (if that's what you're getting at), I said I'd be disappointed if DS didn't have a more dynamic combat system than that of TERA's. And a comparison between TERA and, say, Vindictus' combat systems is far from retarded. If you think it is, care to elaborate.

Still not what I'm getting at, but you do tend to say that a lot of games are terrible. My beef was with you comparing two completely seperate genre's and then bashing TERA for being a traditional rpg.

Vindictus is a hack and slash rpg. TERA is a menu-based strategy rpg. You seriously don't know why I'm baffled at the comparison?

TERA has skill mashing. Vindictus doesn't. That's about it, really. Both require you to dodge opponents' attacks, both require you to mouseclick to attack (except for when in TERA you click skill/spell button instead, I believe Vindictus has buff buttons), both are "menu-based" (they are, trust me), so it seems that you either haven't played Vindictus or just really don't like me.
