Back to Swtor:
Whoever said it was a WoW clone...it's really not. Granted, it's very similar but there are alot of differences between the two games. The only difference I care about, however, is the story's you get while leveling a character. Makes the grind go SO much easier than in WoW.

The only problem I have with a f2p model is the lack of effort that will go into gearing up at end game. You CAN put in an honest effort and do the operations and flashpoints. Or you can fork over 10 dollars.
On the first thing I said it and it is a WoW clone. Don't misunderstand the actual meaning of the word though, I didn't make the rules by the way. When people go and say WoW clone they mean games that have the same mechanics and basically the same principles from WoW, a more accurate name for it would be a traditional MMO, which means holy trinity, gear ratings, press a number on the keyboard and see an animation happen, auto-attack with no direct control over when you swing your weapon, etc. I did also say the only thing that makes it stand out from WoW is the story, that actually exists in a more direct way and focuses on the player.

On the second thing that is called a bad business model (because buying better gear= buying power), not f2p model.

I was more responding to the copy-paste comment from before. Not sure who it was that said it as I can't find it in particular. What I meant is that there are a plethora of differences in the 2 games, including combat and mechanics. So much so that you can classify the 2 games as traditional, but not as a clone of the other. Pvp has more of a tactical base than WoW does. It's VERY important that you pay attention to where you stand. The boss battles tend to have very specific encounter mechanics to them with a couple here and there that are just tank and spank. I just happen to like the story base. That's why I play RPG's to begin with and it seems like blizzard forgot about that when they said to themselves "Hey, you know what we should do? Create our own planet".

I guess what I'm saying is the 2 games aren't interchangeable. I dunno. If you haven't tried out TOR, i personally recommend it. Just go for a populated server.

As for f2p, I just don't like it man. It just seems so unprofessional to me. And if you can't buy gear, I just don't really see the point in it besides mounts.

The point is that you can play a game for free but if you want you can pay for stuff as long as they don't give you an edge over others directly, or isn't the only way to get an edge over others. A tolerated power buying is experience boosting. Buying gear is not the only thing you can do in an MMORPG and there are also MMO's like League of Legends where the business model is just masterfully executed, you can't buy runes, you have to earn them by playing games, but you can buy experience boosts. You can only buy skins which are purely cosmetic and offer no benefit to you whatsoever and you can either buy champions or again earn them by playing. It's professional because even though the game itself is free, hell I spend absolutely no penny on it and it's very doable too, but thanks to this business model they are having a huge income and success when it comes to player numbers and popularity. So much success that they offer enormous prizes at tournaments.

They need to make Jedi or Sith to be earned and not choosed in character creation. Like having this optional quest after 10 lvls.

What is this, Star Wars Galaxies NGE?

What? How would that even work? More importantly what do you actually mean?

Like Star Wars Galaxies.. You reached a certain level, you found a specific item which opens up a chain of quests leading to being a Jedi or Sith eventually.

Sorry you disagree with my opinion, but it wasn't as good as FFXI at launch and everyone knows it. As for no loading, that's been done before see WW2Online which is a 1/2 scale of western Europe, 30,000km2 will full on simulation ballistics modeling, and it's been doing it since mid 2001 and has (thankfully) seen many recent graphical updates. That isn't to say a game of it's (FFXIV) graphical quality in a world like that isn't impressive, just that if I wanted pretty graphics I would play Crysis or BF3.

The game wasn't released as it was meant to be, otherwise they would have up and said it. Which they didn't, they gave every excuse in the book as to why it wasn't up to the current 'standard', you call it WoW, I call it proper balance in classes/exp gain from quests vs mob hunts and so on.

Moving on to them giving a free month after 2.0, you did not state this, all you said was they were switching back to a P2P system. Had you said something along the lines of 'a month after 2.0 drops, they will be switching back to P2P @ 9.99 /m' I wouldn't have bothered posting at all because that was quite obviously my main concern, that a company would 'fix'(we'll see how accurate that word is when it does drop) their game, then say 'instead of letting you check it out, we're gonna milk a quick $ outta ya for you to see if you like the change or not'.
You must be joking. Look up old forum posts, XI was a mess upon release, it wasn't til Rise of Zilart that people started liking it...two years post release. So for me, the game has until 2013 before all hope is lost. The first two years of XI(2002-2004), were pretty universally hated, and the game changed as much as FFXIV is changing from 1.0 to 2.0, according to many fans of XI.

As true as this is, it doesn't change the fact that Squareenix has a universal tendency to release most of their games way before they're ready. That said, still going to give XIV a chance once 2.0 releases.

First of all, not doable, because it would screw with a lot of the story that would have to be changed just for this, which in itself is unnecessary, because the Jedi/Sith unlike the lore, or other games, are not as strong here as they usually are. This way everybody can be a Jedi/Sith if they want to, but they will have to consider the fact that other classes can and will beat the snot out of them if they are not careful.
Problem number 2 if this would be done then that means every character you make has the potential to become a Jedi/Sith which means everybody you create is a Force Sensitive, which would make everybody ask themselves why in the hell would I become a bounty hunter when I can use the force, and if I become a bounty hunter why do I lose my potential to use the force? Just this problem would create a whole lot of fusterclucks that will make players go what and why all over the place.
So the way they did it for the sake of the MMO is just fine and it should stay that way.

Deco, it worked that was for SWG because of the time period it was set in. Post episode 6. The only jedi left after that was Luke, so to make a player work like they did (pre NGE) made sense. TOR takes place during the KOTOR time period, the jedi/sith are WAY higher in number. Not to mention, changing it now would be like what they did to SWG, they made the jedi (pre NGE one of the strongest classes in the game, since people literally worked for years to get one and very few ever became one) total push overs in PvP and was the true start of the downfall for that game.

Next would be as puma said, the story is centered around which class you choose, and they would have to change quite a bit of it if they made it like SWG (Where you HAD to hit lvl 90 before you could use the quest item to start the jedi quest line, even if you managed to get the item drop early, then reset as a lvl.. I think it was 10 jedi and start all over.) The game just wouldn't be worth playing to that point just to start over again.
