Truth be told: large-scale professional fireworks are illegal in Belgium. A lot of Belgians go to Holland to get their fireworks.

All in all, it's Holland who's supplying our terrorist needs.

I'm of the opinion that nanny state laws such as the banning of fireworks are silly. We don't ban swimming pools because people can drown in them, do we?

And uh, yeah.. the kind of fireworks that are being sold illegally are insane. It's not so much fireworks as they are explosives.

I'm of the opinion that nanny state laws such as the banning of fireworks are silly. We don't ban swimming pools because people can drown in them, do we?

It really has more to do with the cost of the fires that fireworks may spark than potential loss of human life. I'm not sure if that actually makes it worse, but that's how our government looks at it. I live in Colorado and we usually have a big wildfire going on somewhere at some point in the summer from small stuff like cigarette buts or burnt love letters, so I can see some point behind them.

It's not about banning fireworks, just about drawing a line between harmless fireworks people can toy with and dangerous explosives we don't want people to toy with. And in the Netherlands that line is set lower than in Germany and Belgium, which leads to people buying heavier stuff abroad (which is quite easy with open European borders).

Yeah its so easy here that still people get caught hehehehe.
But it is easy here. Only some people arent smart enough and get caught

But I think it would be better if the netherlands has the same kind of fireworks then in Belgium and Germany.

Well, all I can say is at least you dont have 15 year old chavs getting their hands on fireworks and setting them off in bins/schools/playgrounds/etc, I've actually had a chav set off a firework on the bus before, and we had an incident at school once where some kids were firing rockets at people on the way home from school. I have nothing against fireworks, they're fun, but in the hands of the wrong people they're a big ****ing liability, the "over 18s only law" isn't as strict as it should be here.
