Anyone help with Server thing ?

Hello, I been trying to get few friends together to play a game of ESF with that EXC mod. I tryed just making a server the normal way so I can add bots and all that, but seems like they cant join it ? and I tried doing the Steam Dedicated server but then I cant join it ? I tried following that HLupdatetool but not sure I'm reading the steps right if anyone could help me out give me some tips or advice or anything how I can make a short and sweet server for 2 or 3 peoples be cool. Thanks

there can be a few possible problems...
1. Frewall
2. No proprerly set Port Forwarding on router
3. No public IP adress
4. nosteam network ip class restriction
5. u beeing clueless

First question that should always be asked: Do you/your friend(s) have a Steam account?

hlupdatetool is legit

But he may not know that.
hl tool may update the server but he said he was having problems either executing or the after patch which means he may use no steam.
Also maybe just a sv_lan 0 simple problem...
