I was planning on buying half-life, but which one do i have to buy? The original or any 1? By the way I'm very new to this but not DBZ.

The original is fine, Day One is not sufficient, you need only a full version of Half-Life (Half-Life Day One is a demo) patched to version 1.1.1.0.
