3dsmax 2009 Question

I'm trying to extrude the top of a cylinder and it's not letting me.

Is there a reason why it's not letting me to do this?

Doesnt extrude work on edges though?

Yeah, Extrude works with edges. For some reason it isn't letting me extrude the edges of the cylinder, though.

Make sure the normals of that polygon are not inversed.

are the edges capped? like, there's a polygon attached to all of them?

Uncap them, extrude and recap them.

you can't extrude an edge that isn't open, ie. has a polygon connected on both sides.

the options you have, are to delete the cap, or select it as a polygon and extrude that instead.

Edit poly mode will not let you extrude edge's once its kindof closed in.
instead press 4 (hotkey for polygon level).
select the top then go to extrude in the menu on the right.

OR

delete the top, then select the edges.

Select the faces on top of the cilinder,keep shift pressed and drag the arrow poining upwards.

doing that with a face will duplicate it, not extrude it.
