k i was bored and wanted to make another map.. low and behold, esf_zsword!

WIP i tell ya!

is there anyone willing to make two models for the map =) the old kai with a dancing animation and a crystal ball?

Lookin' good in the neighborhood! =o

The ridges in the top-down view look nice. All I can really see to change now is a few places where you might want to add some extra polies (where there's weird light shading in Hammer), and the texturing on the side of the cliff on the bottom-right viewport. You might still be working on that area, I can't tell.

Stick a model of the old Kai doing his dance in there and this map would be perfect. XD

yea man still have to texture that area and do some other stuff. those weird lighting in hammer is actually the null texture >_<, thanks thoe for the comment.

wouldn't it be nice to have a cave in this map? one where you have to destroy a wall to enter? =) maybe have some secret entrances to the inside cave? (little idea inspired from darktooth)

u shold u also make a modle of the sword stuck in the top of that cliff on the middle of the water

Is there any Paint Alpha in this Valve Hammer Editor?
I think Source SDK has more options and easier to use :/

OR can someone post up a link that gives me how to do paint alpha..
or imkingkong can u tell me how to do paint alpha and lower terrain and higher terrain

Unfortunately you can not use the Source SDK Valve Hammer with the original Half-Life game. In the original Valve Hammer you have to hand make the terrain unlike the Source SDK where you can paint alpha.

The map looks very good, the only thing I have a problem with is the water fall.

thank yee for your comments >_< yomama i guess i can help you msg me on MSN.. anyways yea waterfalls in half life = suxors! but dont worry it should look better in game, when it moves down and with the waterfall sound and steam sprites =)

Yeah, I'd define the large cliff with more brushes if you can afford it. It looks too... rigidly cut? That works.

You're doing the waterfall about as well as you can. I wouldn't worry about that. It might like cool if you make the texture we're seeing there semi-transparent, with the regular water texture behind it.

Keep up the good work. =)

Wow, first map im actually impressed with. It looks really good! Release that ****! :)

Get a sword in there and you're set.

Also is it possible to fix the waterfall?

I didn't read any of the posts from anyone else, so I know nothing of the map. But it looks like you could make a lot of nifty little secrets in that map with a few destructables in it :)

Other than that. Looks pretty kick ass.

The textures on the sword rock look a bit over scaled. Everything else looks good.

You should have sent this one in though =x

thanks ya guys for the comments.. fixed the textures on the sword rock, and yea my plan was the make the black part in the waterfall texture transparent.. anyways the cliff is a ***** to make smoother, plus i probably can't spare too many resources on it, since i want to add trees and rocks and junk around the map, but it doesnt look bad right? =) as long as it's not ugly i think i'll be fine with it

problems:
1. getting the waterfall transparent
2. steam mist sprites for the bottom of the waterfall are showing, but has a black box around them >_> still figuring out how to get that black part transparent
3. some reason a part of the land gets clipped when looking from the bottom view.. from the top view it looks fine

requests!
1. sword for teh stone
2. old kai model, maybe a dancing idle animation as well =)

i'll probably get the environment skybox edited with the moons in there.. oh and there might be a secret or two in the map >_<

ediT: oh yeah i'll probably make the lighting brighter

Make it a func_wall or func_illusionary, set the Render Mode to Texture, and the Render Amount to any number. The lower the number, the more transparent it will appear.

Set the env_sprite's Render Mode to Additive.

Make sure you're not getting any leafsaw errors (they appear right after VIS and right before RAD in the compile). They're warnings, but they'll cause this kind of weird, random problem.



The skybox goes well with the map. =)
Shouldn't it be a bit brighter, though?

thank you mr dragondude, i forgot about sprites having to be additive, i havent used sprites in a map in a long time =)

anyways added models, made the map brighter... i still am planning to add the moons to the skybox.. anyone still want to make those models i requested?

edit: oh yeah the waterfall moves, complete with sounds and sprites =) it actually looks pretty good ingame

i made this gif for my friend, i might as well post it here.. its the waterfall wahoo! i took screenshot after screenshot and made the gif, so it's just an idea of how it looks ingame.. it's actually a lot more smoother and looks nicer >_< i also plan to make the waterfall a bit less transparent than it is now

Seriously. That map is really great! Even though i think the water color itself could be a little improved. But thast my opinion, otherwise. Thats one hot map you made there, its awesome!
