Disney has laid off the staff of LucasArts and cancelled all current projects.

Staff were informed of the shutdown this morning, according to a reliable Kotaku source. Some 150 people were laid off, and both of the studio's current projects—Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313—were cancelled. Disney will still use the LucasArts name to license games, but the studio is no more.

I think this is a terrible move by Disney, SW games sell no matter how bad they are. Especially when they had 2 games in production already and 1313 looking pretty damn sweet

What was the last good Star Wars game, anyway? Force Unleashed? That was 5 years ago. They don't churn out enough good games to warrant their existence.

Seems kind of like a money sink. This doesn't mean the end of Star Wars games. There's obviously money to be had in the enterprise, and Disney loves money. So, with that in mind, I'm not butthurt about them shutting down LucasArts.

People threw a lot less money at TFU2 than 1, and SWG didn't make enough money to justify what they were putting into it.

The hell are you talking about, Ultimate Spider-man was a good game.

It's probably the only game that had an enjoyable, playable Venom. Last game I played as Venom was either Separation Anxiety or Maximum Carnage, and he wasn't that great.

Kotor was licensed out to Bioware, so that doesn't count.

I'm sad people lost their jobs, but they haven't made anything great in a while. I just want to see another Jedi Knight game.

The only thing I am worried about, when it comes to this decision, is that they may just give the licence to EA or Activision, meaning there would be a high possibility that they would either make sub-par games, worse than what LucasArts have made up until now, to try to cash in cheap on the franchise, or they will make games so ridden with ***** as **** DRM that ****-knows who is going to be able to even remotely play them and not cringe. Let's hope that won't happen. Knowing Disney's way to desperately make money out of anything they think works, I have a feeling they will just let the highest bidder take over, since they seem to think that anything good that ever came out of LUcasArts, even if it was a while ago or not, does not matter. Pessimism anyone?
