when i create a dedicated server off my comp the esf closes and the hlds.exe loads up indicating ppl connecting, fps, map, and all the chat that takes place.

i was wondering what sorts of things u can do in this shell or if there actually IS anything to do with it.

i know u can chat int he server from it but would i need to play in my server off another comp to actually do anything?

you can do anything you can normally do with the console, change levels, kick and ban people, etc, and yes you will need to have anouther comp too join the server

alright you can type to people, by typing "say" then your message, and I've heard you can play on your own dedicated server, on the same comp, you have to join from a different plugin or something of that sort

actually you are wrong there, you can join your own server if you know what youre doing, its the ports

just add this line to your shortcut

-port 27016

and you should be able to join your own server, but you might suffer from alot of lag,i did :(

and for bot commands, always add a bot prefix so you can actually use bots, like adding a bot, done with the command below

bot addbot

That should add a bot.

hi i'm a noob to this esf just wanted to let ya know if u have installed the dedicated server package on ur system and also have ur normal hl game installed it is possible to run the dedicated server and connect to it from the same system. u will need to change the port of the server to be able to connect tho. altho this is possible there is no real reason to do this unless u are experimenting with ur games :D have fun

And if you are going to make a server and then join the server from your own computer you might as well just make a regular game. That sort of defeats the purpose of a dedicated server.

Very true, unless you are rich enough to buy a high-end server-machine then youre better off with a listenserver(default ones)

Because if you run a dedicated server,it will use your computers resources, and if you were to join the game,it would eat up all you resources causing [/b]lag[/b]
