why i need to update??

i have the 1.2.3 version with a real half life (from the store) now every time when i am getting into internet games the game is asking for update i did update allready so can u help me about it??

(plz use simple engslih because i dont understand all the words...)

when i am pressing on the server to get in it says u cant do something under different protocol.

Go to www.steampowered.com and get steam.
