Hey, consider this man; Transhumanism might just be a few decades off. Keep it together till then, and you might become part of the first generation with the capacity to survive hundreds or even thousands of years!

In any case, enjoy life as fully as you can. It's all only temporary, and it IS often a fruitless rat-race, but y'know what? The odds against YOU, YOU specifically, EVER existing at all makes your life a bigger, more unbelievable miracle than anything proposed in any holy book, by the most imaginative of scribes and science-fiction writers. What FOOL would trade being not only alive, but with a MIND, for EVERY winning lottery ticket EVER drawn?

You've already won, just being here, you're living the high-life. Put all that into perspective, and you appreciate it all the more, don't you?

And you might just be among the first to reap the rewards of medical science, to extend that life considerably.

There's much to live for, much to fight for, and much to fight against. Sadly, we're in a war against our own kind, a war of knowledge and humanity against ignorance and savagery. Live to win that fight, and see what might happen next.

A very inspiring observation J-Dude. "I am here against all odds"
That along with the observation of living in the present in order to build your future and admire your past.

I'll just mention with honest tune that with real friends the road is a lot easier and more fun to ride through, especially if they experience similar things that you do.

Next time someone walks up to you and claims they will live forever, I dare you not to stare at them in disbelief and skepticism.

"what's the point in doing things if your just going to die in the end" its attitudes like that that will get you nowhere in life. You find your life worth living for you gotta accept death, embrace it. Because if your not worrying about death then you have so much to live for
I am not worried about death, I am worried about why I should waste 75% percent of my time working for others just to survive from day to day instead of having that time to actually live because after all - I'm going to die eventually. why should I serve some big corporation who uses most of my time for their own needs?

I have no trouble working, but to think that ill have to get up every morning at 6 am, get prepared for the day, drive for lets say an hour to work and working from 8 am to 8 pm and THEN ill start living my life - now, I find it it exaggerated. And when do I get days off? 2 pitiful days out of my full 5 day work.

People might have understood me wrong - I believe life are very enjoyable and satisfying, but it just seems to me we have adopted a way of life that most of our time is served for others, and by others I don't mean friends or family, I am talking about work and daily chores.

To be honest, as I feel now - for all I care ill take 3 years vacation, doing nothing and only having fun while doing minimal work to have the minimum wage I need to survive and having fun. That is pretty much it.

When you finally look at your life you will ultimately understand you lived a tiny bit of them.

The only reason you feel that way is because you live in a modern, westernized country. Basically, what you're experiencing, is feeling like an immature brat (but you think you're justified in being it).

Why do we even bother working hard for money and eventually gaining nothing? We will die in the end so what is the purpose of working hard.

As much as I hate being lazy, when I think about it, most of our lives we waste studying or working. from the age of 6 we are gradually starting to bust our asses off, and for what? to bust our asses again in college? for a 3 hour commute every day to get to our job? to work from 8 am to 8 pm? to have only 2 days from a full week to ourselves, friends and family? to retire at the age of 65 after we are old, numb and useless?

If we will calculate it, excluding sleeping hours, most of our time is spent working and serving other people and companies rather than ourselves or our loved ones, And I find it hard that gaining pleasure from your dream job is possible after doing it for 10 years.

I seriously think, no matter what ill do, prime minister, doctor or even a garbageman - I will feel like I gained nothing, like everyone else.

On the other hand, what are our options? Going back to the hunter-gatherer way of living? Build a hut with your family on some remote island and take care of yourselves - medicine, food, shelter, security?

Personally, I think we should balance ourselves - I find it insane to work for 10-12 hours a day. I think it is fair enough to work 7 hours a day.

I don't know what to think anymore. I am looking for someone to slap me in the face and tell me that this is much better than any other option we have, so I could finally be at peace with this way of life I feel, at the moment, forced to comply to.

This is a mature forum, I expect an intelligent discussion.

What are our options?
Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays.

I understand exactly how you feel, i have been working under the hot australian sun for 8 hours a day weekdays and only get cash in hand. I quit yesterday actually and it felt bloody good. i was working my ass off everyday for around 600 AUS dollars. I came home with cuts all over my hands and aching muscles, i worked in the cold rain sometimes and got really sick, i worked around the heights of 2 story building with no harness and then i thought i am pretty much damaging my body in my early 20's just to get some cash to support myself? i left the worksight as soon as that was thought of.

Solution is simple. Dont want to work for a machine, become the machine. Open your own business. Something small like those little family restaurants you tend to see everywhere, or a shop or something like that.

Then youll be working for you and you alone with you yourself dictating everything from hours to the way the thing works. Just know that doing that will also bring you greater risk in case of failure.

I would not call that western. Americans work more hours on average than Europeans last time I checked, and the protestant settlers stressed the "hard work will pay off" philosophy (though you did say "modern", so perhaps that does not apply). There also is a trend of spitting on the unemployed for not looking for jobs.

I bother because I can. There are so many things that I can do and people that I care about, I don't see school or work as a waste of time but as a means of making progress. A 12 hour shift at the hospital does wear me out, but there's the sense that I've made peoples' stay there a little bit easier. Of course the money's nice too, but that's being used to help fund me at University.

The odds are that I'll spend a relatively large portion of my time working once I graduate. That's not a problem though. It makes sense that you need to work to survive, nobody will hand everything to you. You just need to balance work with something you like.

I get money from working hard even if when i was cleaning the shop for my dad's friends. I just can't take this anymore.

Sweep, clean, all these ****s are starting to annoyed me. The easiest thing to do is just work with my dad to fix cars and stuffs so I don't have to go back for cleaning. Only if I felt like it then its my choice to clean the shop for more then enough money.

I just wish I have a proper job just like everybody else.

Try school?

And to answer the pessimistic premise of the thread, I bother because I try to make the best with what I've been given. Life is short, so I'm going to further myself.

oh and money, I want lots of money.

That's the spirit! I feel like I should use this gift of mine to help people. I need a wider audience.

I need to be a psychiatrist/chologist.

why bother going into that line of work that you're good at? you're just going to die anyway.
