If my quick skim through this thread is any indication, you were wrong about this. You did, in fact, get into a political debate in this thread. Considering you were, without a question of a doubt, absolutely, POSITIVELY, completely and totally 100% wrong about this point, is it not logical and, indeed, probable to conclude that your other points are faulty as well? I mean, if someone gets the simple things so wrong, what does that say about their opinion on the big picture?

I am not privy to healthcare costs, I would love to say Obama has carried the title of Presidency better than Bush...But 1) that's not saying much and 2) there are more important issues there. I don't know. I can't even debate about the President. Finance-related issues are not something I gravitate to, but Bush and Clinton had 8 years Obama's been doing "okay" for 2, so I still believe he is what America needed in 2008, I just hope he can prove it.

I don't think Obama is doing OK, I don't think he was nearly as bad as congress though. I'm personally happy they were wrecked in the election. And for those counting, Pelosi has controlled congress' lower house since 2006. I'm no big fan of Bush, but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as people thought he was.

It makes sense to take politics seriously when it determines whether or not a million people on the other side of the planet are murdered and whether or not we bother funding crazy things like, oh, I don't know, science.

We could take the other route, though. We could say "Government doesn't work guys, so here's what we're going to do. We're going to take office and make sure absolutely nothing gets accomplished to illustrate that point. Then you'll see that it doesn't work, and keep electing us because its their fault. Who's they? Not you and not us, and that's bad."

Third way socialism is still socialism. Most European countries have a mix of socialism and capitalism that lean to the left hard. When I say socialism, I use the actual definition of it, not the bastardized Stalinist, Maoist and Nazi versions of it that also included borderline dictatorships and oligarchy.

And no, I don't automatically label that with which I disagree with socialism, but thanks for throwing words in my mouth over a joke. You can be insulted all you like, I didn't intend to insult you and I'm sorry my thoughts don't align with your own, but my opinion is my opinion.

To wit, the responses from you and Nix are golden examples of why I stopped posting here for a long time. And why I didn't want to get into a political debate. You both have come out not in the spirit of debate, but the spirit of ridicule.

Furthermore, you've bashed what you believe to be the American brand of liberalism (though it is nothing more than slightly left of what passes for conservatism in the United States, though I think the rest of the world will agree with me when I say American conservatism borders on fanaticism and anti-intellectualism and is nothing like what you'd find in Europe) in several of your posts. If we were to bother to determine who fired the first shot, as it were, I think you'll find it was neither Harsens nor myself.

On another note, every time you and I do debate, and you provide me with links to outdated information, and I, in turn, provide you with recent intel, you dismiss it all as liberal propaganda. Case in point, our WMD debate, which, by the way, Bush said in his new book were never found. What is my point? Even if I were to pounce into this thread in the spirit of debate, you'd find plenty of reasons not to. Or you'll engage and dismiss any and all information contrary to your world view. Socialism is an economic and political theory advocating public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources.

As an economic system, socialism is a system of production based on the direct production of use-values by allocating economic inputs (the means of production) and investments through planning to directly satisfy economic demand.

I don't want to be associated with something as clumsy as a plan economy and cooperative management and I don't know of a single EU-country that works like that.

Hes probably thinking of the Capitalistic Socialism that runs here in europe. The entire notion of Having a socialism based health care system and what not, while working as capitalists on the rest.
