Very odd..i cant figure it out.

When im loading to play the game it loads the precaching..and then it says precaching done...and then after that the whole half life just shuts off and my desktop shows again..i re-installed it and changed the video modes,but it still gives me the same problem..can someone help me?
i have tried to load it atleast 17 times,and when it says precaching done,half life just minimizes and dissapears,and thats it..then i have to reload it again and it still does the same thing.
