ok this might not be such a big thing, but its a good start. the trees stand there, just stand there stiff and sh*t, i think that wen u fly past them they should move! or throw some one in it it should break.

also wen you shoot a beam just above the water i think it should like move like in the show... or somthing? ord that just cause to much lag...

If you want your FPS screwed up, that's your problem. Us others, we like to be able to PLAY the game as well.

All of this has been suggested before also I believe, there's a search button for a reason.

not needed. I'd rather them try to fix advanced melee.. though that'll never happen

I'm also against this suggestion but I do have one question, would the engine even be able to do the water thing? I've never seen it in a HLmod.

yes it could do the "Dust tail" over water, that never hurt anyone when it was in the game. all you had to do was turrn it of for those that dont like to get a decent computer...

I was talking about the water actually moving, not the spray. I know the spray is possible.

No the water brush cannot deform in multiplayer to my knowledge, but it wouldn't need to, the spray would be enough. It was in b1.1 and worked fine until some people with crappy comps whined to get it removed because they couldn't handle the 5fps drop :S

Play it again, it was much much more then a 5 fps drop. If there was enough people in the server, it could drop 20+.

Sub, i'd like to know what setup you have too, i'm running a 9800Xt 256mb and a gig of DDR Ram over a 1mps connection and the fps drop is less than 5 even on a 10-16 man server.

I think it COULD be able to move in multiplayer. I remember several times where esf_guru was still water. If I changed the map to a certain ape map (i forget which) and then changed to guru, the water would start doing a strange wavy action.

Well if you have a func_water brush you can set wave strength, height etc, so if you wanted to make a pool of clear water you'd have no waves, whereas a river or sea would be more choppy and hazardous, if the team could work out a way of having in-game events change the wave variables...they could make water have waves when somebody fires an attack nearby or trans or something.

So I should be very embarrassed that I can't even run it?

Anyways, on topic, SuperKrillin I remember playing on the cell_games map and I distinctly remember the trees moving if something was happening near them, be it a kiblob or an explosion. On that canyon map as well. I also remember getting bored and blowing the trees up, so they can definitely be destroyed.

I dont think that would work. Allthough I don't know the HL engine that well, I would think that the mappers would have to create the water in 100s of little blocks each representing a area about the size of a person. Just like that so the engine could change the wave height of each area.

Allthough I could be wrong and the engine is capable of changing wave height at certain points.

My personal opinion is we need the particle system back again. It was a way that would create a lot less problems then what I said. And still look cool.
I miss the dust trails tremoundsally. Even my idea about "advanced particle system" got ignored with the removal of it. :'(
