so anyway, i've come to the conclusion that americans are missing out, on the genius that is Nevermind The Buzz****s.

a comedy show with two teams, each team captain is a famous comedian who appears regularly, and each team has a different musician/tv host.

each show is split into 4 rounds. the first usually involves a video, and something about the artist.
the second has a guest and comedian trying to sing the intros to songs, while another guest guesses what they are.
the third has a comedic lineup
and the fourth is "tell me the next line".

this one has Dave Mustaine in it.

And this one has Slash in it.

Apart from not getting some of the jokes, that was awesome.

Other than not understanding half of what he was saying, I didn't even smile once. But have fun thinking we're missing out.

So I don't seem like a ****, even though I know I am one.

To me, that's comedy, you may hate it, and that's fine. But you know? You're like, the east, we're west, we're just 2 different kinds of people. I'm sorry it just won't work out between us.

Heh, that show is great. Should see the ep with John Barrowman in it. If you know the new episodes of Doctor Who or Torchwood, John Barrowman is Captain Jack Harkness. He is criminally hilarious :p

haha yeah, and the new presentor/s are awesome too. although i'm a firm believer that they will never be the same as Mark Lamarr (he is just stupid awesome). they are a breath of fresh air.

i really liked the episode where they had the singer of Fun Loving Criminals as the presenter haha.

Exactly. British comedy is full of wit and hidden references and just so very dry. It's humour you have to think about. American humour is very direct, especially with the mass of stand-up comedians you have over there.

Personally, I don't like the "yeah, so I was waiting for this bus and all of the sudden I see this *n-word for african-american person* and I'm like wtf you trippin' *female dog*??".

Two different audiences, 2 different styles. Though I'd like to think of british humour as being a lot more intelligent and clever.

Well it would help if, you know, maybe we could understand you =/

Or at the very least know what you're talking about. For example, if you are making fun of a person, or a type of person, and you're using a name no one has never heard of before, or a word the American's don't use, then yeah it's not going to be funny. If you want to call that intelligent and clever, be my guest.

I know Nick Swardson uses a lot of people in his comedy that some people may not know, rendering his jokes useless.

And with the World being "americanized", as some may call it, it's a lot easier to get the jokes that most American stand ups use. I don't look into anything british, or relate to it, or learn about it. So when British people use British humor, SUPRISE, I have no idea what they're talking about.

I'd like you to show me how "British" comedy is more clever and "American" comedy. Or how it's more "intelligent". Last I checked their job was to make people laugh, if they're succeeding I'm pretty sure that's all that really matters. I'm not saying British comedy is bad, I'm saying I don't understand what they're saying. That's like watching a Spanish comedian and not understanding what they're saying.

Except, you know, Spanish isn't England's native language. I've never found English humor to be that clever. I like English movies and some English television shows, but I can't recall ever once laughing at English stand-up. I like John Oliver if that counts, but I doubt it does since most of his jokes are about America.

I'm just making the reference that I have a hard time understanding English people. If their accents not strong I can understand them just fine, but I have heard some with accents so strong I can't understand a word of it. Literally.

Personally, I think its more about the comic themselves than their nationality, where they're from does have a influence on their style, and also effects the audience they're able to communicate with, to a degree. The one thing about British comedy is sometimes they cover things in a very regional way, there's a lot of different regional accents in Britain, each with their own in-jokes and sayings, but as a nation we all are very aware of these tendencies and differences so we find it easy to relate or ridicule with them. This is something I doubt other countries would be able to understand in the same way. My favourite Comedian of all time is Bill Hicks, but he didn't have such a good reception in America, in contrast he played the biggest gigs there are for comedians in the UK and got a lot of press, and also was headlining the Comedy festival in France.

British comedy is often absurd, crude at times, satirical and very critical and usually has a political or social agenda behind the criticism, and there often seems to be an element of self loathing in British comedy where we're all quite happy to take the piss out of ourselves and everything else we can. I find that most of the time American comedy is somewhat sarcastic, eccentric, quick fire, pun based and very linear in its agenda, its just about making people laugh, instead of making people think. This is not true of all American comedy of course but its just a very noticeable tendency. I notice in American chat shows and stuff that most of the time its very tame, questions aren't very risque or controversial, everything is treated with an even hand, and there's light use of swearing, you find here that any show after 10pm will not have any censorship and i feel that sometimes shows make good use of the greater freedom.

Anyhows, if you're looking for American criticism from British TV panel shows, "Have I got News for You" is my favourite comedy panel show, discussing news and politics with a humorous angle. I doubt you all care about the politics in england (which the tv show covers mostly) so here are a couple of examples of the show taking a look at US news;

The queen visiting America
