The single absolute best thing about the late 90s to early millenia was the HL community. TS and Existence, nothing can ever replace the golden days of Half-Life.. Nothing can replace NS or Sven Co-op. Even CS back before it was mainstream.

I think it's indisputable that the 90s were the golden age of gaming. The following are evidence to this:

And I didn't even go into N64 games..

*Edit* Man, this thread is really depressing. Why did you do this?

There is nothing better than 90's, that's all I need to say.

Wish I was born earlier, so I could have witnessed the oldschool hardcore , and dnb scene. :(

Here are a few examples of that :

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLaSDTdthBI[/ame] ( I know it's from a kid's game called Ape's Escape. But back then, I was a kid as well. I remember playing this stage over and over again just to hear it once more. I absolutely loved the dark , ambient tune of this one ).

I love everything about 90's ; the style, the music, the games, the underground scene for _MANY_ things , and how life was back then in general.

I'd give anything in order to live that fantastic decade as an adult.
Ah well, at least I'm happy for experiencing something.

Those were awesome times.

The only bad thing I can think of off the top of my head was being in elementary school.

One word can sum up my experience/love for the 90s: Nickelodeon

Back when games has the resources to get a little quirky (Pilot Wings 64 come to mind)

Sonic the Goddamn Hedgehog

Bop-It, Go-Goes, Pokemon cards, SPACE JAM, and cartoons overall were better.

And I'm really glad to be one of the generations to have respect for the internet. Seeing the popularity of computers rise makes me appreciate technology more.

Some of my earliest memories are from 1990 when I was 3. This thread brings back a lot of memories,

one of my favourite shows when I was a kid was art attack, doubt any non-brits would know about this. Anyhows I always used to be making stuff, and this show was awesome!

Well, both Cartoon Network and Fox Kids were more like international tv channels throughout europe until some point if I recall, so that explains how that show got aired here at Finland as well.

And no, I've never heard of that band unfortunately.
But that's because I haven't dug it up , like other stuff so don't know.

Ah i see, I only ever saw it on channel 3 here, wasn't privileged with cable so I didn't have cartoon network.

Stone Roses rocked the early 90's here. My favourite band of the decade, though i never really listened to them till I was in my teens.

Hell yes. Cartoons were awesome because they weren't the super saccharin bull**** peddled to the youth of today. Anymore it seems they have either that or the absolutely retarded ADHD laden stuff. Seriously, watch old school nickelodeon and compare it to Spongebob. I swear they think kids are smoking pot at the tender age of 7 now.

Did any of you guys also sit around with your family on Friday nights to watch TGIF? Hell yes, Sabrina was hot, though probably the blame for the explosion of Wiccans in middleschool. Boy meets world was cool too. Topanga was ****in weird but I still had a crush on that chick and to this day I still have a bit of one for her.

It might have been a bad time for the storywriting, but I loved the "EXTREME" design of comic heroes. Sure most of the stories were grimdark and emo, but hell yeah I loved it anyway.

It was also the time that fads were called fads instead of this pretentious "meme" word that people use now. Sure giving it a more scientific name works for those who study social phenomena, but everybody wants to be a ****in expert on them, I'm even guilty of this myself.

In the internet's infancy, sure trolling was around, but it was limited mainly to usenet. You rarely needed to ban someone from a messageboard, and if you did there was usually an outburst, then they just moved on. Now it's almost become an art to try and piss people off over the internet. Maybe it's because our skin has gotten softer as well, but it's still annoying.

Video games were hard. I remember it taking me months of practice to beat most of my Nintendo games. Our hand-eye coordination was off and the games were just stacked against you. One hit kills and bottemless pits with near pixel perfect jumping required basically made me memorize entire levels. I can probably pump out a decent map of all the levels in SMB1, 2, and 3. Battletoads was just insane and to this day I've never managed to beat it. I could just use PAR codes along with an emulator to do it, but I refuse to out of principle. Now most games just kind of hold your hand save for a select few. Tutorial levels never existed, you spent a good half hour just practicing the controls just to see what your character could do.

Sure I'm wearing rose tinted glasses while looking back, but I'll continue to do so. The bitter reality of adulthood is probably to blame for my outlook on our current times. **** why did I have to grow up :(
