Before you read on, I want to warn you that there may be book spoilers in this thread.

Some review on some site some time ago said that the movie sucked, and that the reviewer had seen it on a private viewing. I personally am excited about it, but after finding out that some scenes are missing, some quotes have been changed, and Ford is black (I just can't picture it) I'm having my doubts about the movie.

What does everyone else here think?

I don't mind Ford being black in this case. It shouldn't be too bad, so long as he speaks proper english, acts like Ford and doesn't act like an immature rapper it's fine with me.

I'm pretty excited for the movie, it's looking pretty good. Marvin looks sweet, and hell, Adams wrote most of the script, so how can it be bad?

I'm pissed off with Ford being black and i'm not being racist. He's described in the book as pale skinned, ginger haired swept back with this thin crooked grin =/ Regardless of whether the guy is an Oscar nominee or a backstreet rapper, it's going to destroy the mental image I had of him.

Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent should work well, he's funny and Britishy and showed in The Office that he can pull off satirical, subtle humour.

Who's playing Zaphod and Trillian?

Don't really know, but Zaphod looks like a hippie (and you only see one head at a time) and Trillian looks like... well I haven't seen her yet.

Already read the book. I have a site where everyone can read it online. FOR FREE. Unfortunately it's only for the first book.

Also, I've seen Previews of Mos Def talking as Ford.

His english is acceptably proper. His personality from those glimpses matches that of the Ford we know and love. So...other than the mental image's destruction, it may be all good.

I think thats because the writting and acting was good... i really liked it, but i like a lot of 80's British comedy. I just hope the new one isnt "improved" in ways which arent needed.

Just how many books does the film cover? One or two? And yes Trillian and Arthur did have a child (named Random).

It covers the first book only, which is why the relationship between Arthur and Trillian is weird to me. In the first book, Trillian was just kind of... "go away, I'm trying to ignore you" to Arthur.
