I do not understand something why you need steam to play online ? I find it stupid for 2017

If you have internet you just create your server and players just press search find a new server and play very easy,in my opinion that's how it should be work when you want to play online with any player

NOPE you have something like master servers where public servers are registered so you can find them without much looking. It's different for private games but there you have to know the IP of the server you want to connect to. Steam(and HL) is needed because we don't support pirated copies

It is sad what you say now because In my opinion it is silly for 2017 because any user or players have windows pirates,games pirates programs pirates and so on

many players use CS 1.6 pirates and work,you can play online without problems no need steam or buy legit copy of Halflife to play

Very few severs work with pirated cs or pirated hl on 1.2.3 , most of them u cant get in without official half life and in esf final most likely you wont be able to enter 1.
Plus half life gets to 1,75 euro on steam when its on sale, not hard to get it and most players who want to play this already got it, no way it will affect the playerbase that much.
