Hah, Now i remember playing Resident Evil 2, When the lickers just break the mirror.
For now the scariest game i have played is Vampire the Mascarade:Bloodlines on the Hunted Mansion area. Where there are ghost and dead little girls. That freaked me out.

SH2.... but I think after playing the F.E.A.R. demo that mine will change. That demo was all O_O.

I can't believe no one mentioned Fatal Frame. That game gave me serious heart trouble. RE2 was pretty good for the scares, especially the before mentioned licker scene and OMGWTF WAS THAT B game. The first time X punched through the wall I nearly **** myself.

Silent Hill games. By far the scariest games ever. The incredibly bizarre story line, and the horrific Pyramid Head *shivers* make SH2 the scariest one out of the bunch though.
Quoted for truth, i'm a huge fan of the SH games and 2 was by far the best in terms of story, characterisation and atmosphere, although there was a very special moment in SH3 as well that i'll never forget...

That one.

By the way if you're a fan of Silent Hill then check out Jacob's Ladder, Session 9, Rosemary's Baby or Paperhouse (in order of preference), you'll see Konami borrowed a lot of imagery from those films across the SH series.

Oh and I think the Headcrab Nest (indeed, all of Ravenholm) from Half-Life 2 deserves special mention too...those screams...

I played a little of silent hill 2, round my mates house... it seemed scary but isnt really when ur with ur mates >_>... I dont really play many "scary" games...

I thought the haunted house level in Vampire Masquerade bloodlines was pretty well done. I wish my computer didnt have such a hard time running that game, i'd have loved to complete it =/ but i just couldnt cope with the half hour loading times every 5 mins -_-... Like i said though I dont play many scary games.

Haha, yeah I guess playing SH2 with your mates would really kill the atmosphere. I usually play it with the lights off, candles lit, windows open, with surround sound

Not seen any of those films, I'll be sure to check them out :)
Yeah, SH2 is best played alone though. Best when you're completely alone in the house, at night and with the volume turned up high on a big TV screen and in total darkness. When I play it like that, I can usually only play it for 1-2 hours before I get too a little too tense and end up turning it off at the next save point :D

Hell yeah! I'd completely forgotten about this one. Easily up there with my scariest moments. I liked the way there was a small but very sinister little sub story line contained in that mission. Really helped to build the atmosphere. I was however a bit dissapointed that it built up to a big scare that never really appeared.

Cold Fear?

I thought Resident Evil 2 was scary when I first played it a long time ago.

Oh yeah, that one was really well done,

But Vampire Bloodlines is known to have a poor performance, even on fast computers... -_-

Spoiler,

But, even though the Haunted Hotel was good, after you realize that noone can really harm you there, except stupid paintings at the wall and vases on the table flying towards you, there isn't really a monster that will eat you allive or something, but its creepy nontheless, its just that the feeling that you got there gets less the 3rd time you go into that house.

Phantasmagoria was a good scary game, but the FEAR demo was all.

I have to say I wasn't scared or impressed by the haunted house level in Bloodlines much. But that could've been for a number of reasons. To this day the only game that ever really gave me chills were Doom 3 and Silent Hill.

Actually, if you play the PSX version of Doom, or download a mod to add the PSX version music to the PC game, then it is actually pretty scary. It's not in midi format, and it's slow paced, mostly ambient sounds. The PSX version of Doom was the first game to give me nightmares as far as I remember.
