It'd really make maps matter more.
Instead of them being the pretty scenery you fly over, their shape actually would matter. What a novelty, eh?

It shouldn't be that hard.

i dont like the idea...

mostly because of this reason.

sometime when you're on the ground and fire a beam it detonates after you fire damaging/killing you...

i dont think thats been fixed yet

No offense but this has to be one of the all-time worst ideas ever. At the expense of making the map layouts matter more...you'll have shut off melee completely, and no one will be able to fire a beam anymore.

Well no, melee would still work, if you havn't seen beta 1.2 screenshots you wouldn't know, but Im guessing flinging someone into the air and then watching them struggle for a safe landing would be kinda cool.

Plus I think they fix some of the ground deto bugs.

This is a great idea considering the new melee.

I would support including a "DB" game mode (as opposed to DBZ) where running and physical dodging were the key elements to combat instead of flying eradically to hit your opponent. I wouldn't support a cvar to turn off flying though. In a game mode you could just set it up so that flying burned quadruple the ki and you could add in 'on ground' dodging techniques like were suggested a few weeks ago (a side-step technique). I just don't see any potential in a flying on/off cvar by itself.

Did you miss my post? It says exactly how it could/would/should be used. Plus maybe the cvar could lessen the burn of KI went beam jumping.

On a side note jumping at all shouldn't remove any of your energy, thats kinda stupid, the could of jumped higher in DB, without wasting energy.

lol...I think you hit the 'submit' button twice or somethin....

Anyway, it sounds good to me. That way, we can actually have tournaments like in the show.

I like the idea exspecially for the collect the dbz mode since you actually have to jump and all not just get easy way around...you could hide the dbz's so they are harder to get...make the game challenging not just simple ... "oh it's too high ...well i better fly"

That is what I meant. You people who protested the idea because of it's inability to work with ESF as it is now don't seem to get the idea. For starters, swoop could be tweaked to follow the ground, you wouldn't have to lose it, and blast collision detection could be changed to require a sharper angle to detonate. So instead of it detonating when it brushes up against any land, it'd have to hit it at a more direct angle. I don't know, I'm not the coder.

All I'm saying is, of course if it were to be done, other aspects of the game would need tweaking too. I thought that was obvious. But as I see it, the mod would greatly profit from those changes anyway, even if you didn't put a cvar to disable flying, adding support for ground battle would be neat.

o_O* I swear I didn't do that on purpose. >.>

Anyway, boosting on the ground would be kinda kool, because its in the series, and the only tweak it would need would be if you jump, you jump out of swoop but 3 times as high.

taking out flying would be stupid

because it would still be used in so many places

like if u swooped u would be flying along the ground, if u meleed someone most of the melee animations include flying and so on

it would just be dumb to see ur character flying in all these other situations but never just normaly flying

What about transformations? Some of the transformations, like Trunks' And Vegeta's and such, look like they only belong on flat ground. You didn't mention the discrepency in that.

And I've seen swooping in the series on the ground.
I don't think it looks dumb.. but I guess it's a matter of taste.

I mean, all swooping is, really, is automatically moving forward, and faster then normally possible. But if you want to split hairs regardless, when you run with turbo, your feet move faster. The same animation could be meshed into ground swooping. Although it'd look silly, honestly the swooping would look better, but as I said, matter of taste. The team will fit to the teams' taste.
And then you'd have ground melee. Happy day!

Take it a step farther, fixing blasts via collision detection tweaking and such (I guess), maybe changing them so that a sharp angle of collision is required, otherwise the blast just glides along the ground, following it's angle, whatever it may be... (/stab in the dark) and you can fire blasts from the ground as well! YAY!

Add the cvar to disable flying and now kiddies can run around like maniacs! YAYYyyy... yy....

And if you want you can add people bouncing and skidding. That'd be just precious. But that's a whole 'nother thread, I guess.

...I just remember it being pretty fun getting on top of the highest buildings in esf_city without flying. And jumping from rooftop to rooftop... etc..

I dont get why you ppl hate it soo much ... it whould be the first step to creating a DB mode for 1.2 w/o tons of coding ... that way it wont delay the release :p

Then in 1.3 or 1.4 the esf team will make DB models and a new beam/melle code soo its more like DB :)

Maybe if you swoop on the ground it shows a different animation, like your character running extremely fast?

In dragonball they launched at each other a lot, and they went far, so it looks like they flew.

Well regardless, whether they're flying, jumping dashing, rolling bouncing whatever, they do it on the ground too. And no sense in not simply allowing it to be.
Correct me if I am wrong.

This is stupid, in the show when people are "swooping on the ground" there's a reason why they are still a few feet off the ground, cause they're flying. It's the same in ESF, stand on the ground, aim straight, and swoop. Wow, swooping on the ground. And Smith if you want to run really fast on the ground, don't fly, and turn on turbo! Hmmmm, running fast.
