hosting could be a small prob. but i think you can host.
i can't host games like dungeon siege, jk2, rtcw, sof. i can for q3 (never tried hl)
else you should open some ports for people who want to join you (like friends or something)

Okay, I'll help you out. I have a linksys as well. I'm not very good at it yet (I still can't say, host a dedicated server on one comp and hop on through the other online, but I got it to work for listen servers).

There is a tab on the router setup page (for mine, it's like http://192.168.1.1 or something to that effect) called "Advanced." Once you click that, you will find an area for "Port Forwarding." Find out what the IP address of the computer you want to host on is, and fill in the range of ports to have forwarded and that computer's IP. Check off both UDP and TCP or whatever the second option is (it's different for you I think).

The port range I use is 27005 - 27015, I think. That handles at least the listen server and connecting. If you assign at least that range to the PC you want to host on, it should work.

Just remember, I can't get dedicated to work. I'm still working on that problem...I'll keep you posted, though.

Hope I helped.

here's a better solution.

Throw out that POS, buy a netgear, and netgear automatically has an option to let HL games bypass the router to the outside world.

Please don't go with lynksis, their the worst cause their routers die to quick. i had mine for 2 weeks and 2 of the ports died on it. their tech support is awfull and you get less bang for your buck.

Heres how to do it the proper way, it leaves your PC exposed, but honestly, who would want to hack your computer?

Go into your router and find your DMZ Host. Now look at your PC's IP, for example, mine is xxx.xxx.x.101, notice the 101? Thats the important part. In your DMZ box add 101, updated, an tada! You can now host whatever the hell you want. Much better than port forwarding because this will work with any game/app.

For what it's worth, guys...I have found almost no way to make the File Transfer in AIM work. Certain people with DSL and no network can usually connect to me...but I still can't connect to them, or anyone else. And I did this with a whole MESS of port forwarding BS trickery. It's really not worth it, I guess; I should've got a netgear, but my file transfer rate online is still damn high witht his and I heard netgears choke sooner.

But that was probably a minor thing, in retrospect. Oh well. I can tell you how I got the AIM Transfer to semi-work, if you want.
