terrible news people. ive just read that dimebag darrell, guitarrist from the likes of pantera, and damage plan. was shot dead in a club while performing. also 4 others, including 1 other band member (i think vinnie) are dead.. rest in piece...

this sickens me. proof can be found (if needed) at www.damageplan.com

what is the world coming to when a man, doing something he loves, and entertaining hundreds of people, can be shot down by 1 person who doesnt agree with that type of music? im thoroughly sickened to the core...especially cos he shot fans who were just enjoying themselves too >_<

wtf?!

12/09/04 Reports are coming in from Columbus, Ohio, where an alleged shooting occurred at Alrossa Villa, the nightclub where Damageplan was performing tonight. The earliest reports indicate that Dimebag Darrell and one other band member were among those killed.

At Least 5 Dead, 2 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting
Witnesses: Alleged Guman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

POSTED: 10:32 pm EST December 8, 2004
UPDATED: 1:40 am EST December 9, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Columbus police Sgt. Brent Mall said the alleged gunman appeared to be targeting the band members. After shooting at the stage, the gunman opened fire on the crowd. At that point, an officer shot man dead, Mall added. Police said there could have been many more fatalities had the officer not killed the gunman.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed.

and nobody deserves to be shot while performing onstage EVER.

Hmm, no need for the personal attack, Almighty Gir. I'm forced to give you a warning

Yes, it is a shame that people feel they have to make a point with violence. So what if that guy left Pantera, it was his decision, not yours, not the guy who shot him, or anyone elses. I just pray for the day, that people realize the individual side to everything, and exhale. May "Dimebag" rest in peace, and hats off that police officer ending the altercation, before it got worst.

wtf is wrong with you? do you not have a little decency?

Dimebag was a legend, i loved his music in both pantera and damageplan, an amazing guitarist indeed. i'll miss him, i dont blame him more leaving pantera after enduring years of slagging off from that drug addict Phil Anselmo, even when he left, phil said he deserves to be "shot", that was about a month back >;|

Then again, what Tassadar said is idiotic, and probably the most stupid and un-decent thing I've heard on this forum in awhile.

Pantera are an amazing band, and so are Damage Plan. It is bad news to hear this, he was a great guitar player, and helped the music industry evolve.

What Tassadar said is wrong, and moronic. He was a good guy on many accounts, and very successful.

Actually, for the record, Dimebag isn't his first name, it's just a nickname. His actual first name is Darrell...he and Vinnie Paul are brothers. Darrell and Vinnie Paul Alcott or something like that. They're the sons of a famous country producer, I think.

Either way no one deserves any of what happened to them. A fan shot every member of the band, killing two (Vinnie Paul is okay, by the way, he was shot once and someone dove on top of him). He shot Dime repeatedly in the face at point-blank range. To the point where there was practically nothing left. Vinnie had to watch his own brother get his face blown apart, as well as a room full of adoring fans seeing one of their heroes get wiped out of existence in a gory mess that no human being should ever have to witness. Adoring fans who were then fired upon for their troubles, no less.

No one deserves that. Show some respect.

I'm just thankful that cop was on top of things. Otherwise who knows how many people would have died. That guy deserves a commendation for acting so quick and saving so many lives.

My newspaper would not even allow me to publish the story because of the gory details of Dimebag's death. They had me edit it to say he was "gunned down."

It's a shame. Those two were so happy to have their new band going, and they were all gung-ho about things. This couldn't have been done at a worse time.

Exactly, well put. Tassadar, learn some respect, and don't start running your mouth without any facts. Jesus Christ.

its actually tings like what tassaddar said that make people act like that. people with the attitude of "oh hes a drugged up dunk who worships the devil he deserves it" are the people who go killing others like this. its sick. he was just a musician with both passion and tallent. he even helped his dad write and produce a country album.
what right does anyone have to decide someone should die because they do something that isnt liked by a minority, and no less they decide to end that persons life in a room filled with hundreds of people who obviously DO like it.

WTF?!?!?!?!

sorry guys but im seriously pissed off, to the point that i couldnt care less about warnings/bannings.
this subject directly affects my life as a live performing guitarrist. it scares me to think this kinda crap actually happens. and it happens to people who i idolize...who i think will live forever...

He made a personal attack on a man who is dead? Is that right, and I did not personally attack him. I gave him my oppinion on what he said. This is not breaking any of the AUP.

ok - if you all want to discuss off topic things there is a handy feature called a private message - use it.

I don't want to see this thread go off-topic again.

Hmm, I remember this thread originally being about the death of two ex-Pantera guitarists, not what you think about Tassadar's opinion.

Frankly, calling each other stupid and ****heads doesn't fly with me, or any of the moderaters.

So, next person to go off-topic, gets a warning, and probably the thread closed also.

I don't know much of anything about Dimebag, but what the hell was the motive of the shooter? It takes a lot to drive a man to run onto a stage and open fire on a band and a crowd. I mean, you don't walk away from that clean, there's a 100% chance you're going down no matter what happens.

Sucks, but none of us knew these people so not much difference in the deaths in everyday life.

It sucks they had to die like this and that some person had to go that far and do what he/she did to get back at them or whatever the reason was.

R.I.P to these people and all the people that have died today, yesterday, the day before that and everyone in the past.

It is indeed a sad day in the world of metal when someone so beloved as Dimebag Darrell was killed at gunpoint. How obsurd. I'll rock a little harder for you today, Dimebag. Rest in Peace.

And just as a last word, there is such a thing as "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all." It's one thing to have an opinion about something, but completely another to purposely voice that opinion at an inappropriate time. Regardless of opinion, have a little compassion. Please.
