psp 2.. sounded good.. now it doesn't...

I loved my psp for the first few days, then gradually started regretting spending $250 on it. The controls are very awkward and response time felt kinda slow. After I got about 9 stuck pixels in less than a week, I took it back. It was bulky, heavy and didn't fit in my pocket well, which kind of took away the whole concept of it being portable, especially with the ****ty battery life (which leaves you trapped at home plugged into an ac adapter). The web browser was nice, and so was the mp3 player function, but to use those features to any extent, you need a big ass flash stick, which is $70 or so, you can't really get the full usage out of the psp without spending well over $300 on it, which is ridiculous for a portable.

I for one love my psp.

It's loaded with custom firmware (thanks SV ) I can play all of my Psx library flawlessly and I regularly encode movies to watch while I'm traveling.

I for one am glad the re-design doesn't offer a whole lot, I don't see any reason to upgrade from my current psp, the 8gb flash isn't a draw since aren't 8gb pro duo's comming out soon? and the thing will probably be harder to downgrade/upgrade to custom firmware, the weight never bothered me and I play my psp in short bursts, so battery life has never been an issue.

I'm too lazy to read the posts myself cause they're kinda long >_>, but you can get one of those custom faceplates for the PSP and same for the buttons to make your PSP "2"-ish. I have a PSP myself, and I regret buying it. Hell, I don't use it as a MP3 player and I perfer my DS better. Theres not much of a PSP exclusive games, most of the games I bought was either a remake or a port from the PS2 version.

I can't do homebrew since when I bought it was already updated to 3.40 which kinda sucked since I thought they were updated to 2.00 something.

If you still have 3.4 (or anything below 3.51), get yourself a Lumines game ASAP. (they sell for a ****load of money on ebay now, so don't try there) Lumines has an exploit that allows homebrew. With that you can downgrade back to 1.5. When on 1.5, you can upgrade to 3.40 OE-A (custom firmware) which allows you to play alot of games:

- PSP
- GBA
- SNES
- Nes
- Genesis/Megadrive
- Gameboy
- Gameboy Color
- PSX
- N64(albeit slow at the moment, but improving quickly)
- A lot of custom homebrew games
- A couple of Atari consoles are emulated
- Even more I don't even know what they are: BBC Micro, MSX, SamCoup?, Amstrad CPC
- Commodore Plus/4
- ScummVM (great fun, playing Monkey Island 1,2,3 again)
- Colecovision
- SMS
- M.A.M.E
- Turbo Grafx
- Wonder Swan
- Neo Geo
- Capcom Playsystem 1/2
- Amiga

And many many many more that I don't know. If you would count each and everyone of of those game consoles to the PSP gaming library, you be will in the tens of thousands of games.

Does it work with any version of Lumines?

Yeah, they patched the exploit in the firmware 3.51. They didn't make any new Lumines versions if I am correct.

As of June 23, 2007, a PSP homebrew team found a Lumines exploit that allowed execution of unsigned code on all PSP units running firmwares 1.00-3.50.Three days later, a downgrader was released, for version 3.50, enabling all PSPs to downgrade to version 1.50. This revelation lead to a 5900% increase in sales of the game at Amazon.com and a dramatic increase of the game from retailers like Gametraders and EB Games.

Jump ultimate stars, its in jap but its smashbros with anime characters. One of my favourite games, like ever.
