i was looking up dirty websites the other day and i actually got a virus, which I haven't gotten in months, it's classified as "ransomware". As soon as my computer would start it would take me to a bogus "FBI" warning saying that child porn was found on my computer and that i needed to pay x amount of money to get it unlocked. I typed in gibberish into the block and it said that it would take 3 hours to process and to leave my computer on lol. I tried to use a kickstart loaded on to a USB, but I couldn't get that to work. Guess what I did to fix it :)

I remember one had a similar virus , telling that you have broke law , and even counted the laws you broke, but actually when you look at the number of law and compare it to real one , there's a big difference xD I think we fix it by just reinstalling windows, that's atleast the easiest way to do it.

reinstall windows?? nononnnononononononononono nonononoonon

how i was able to fix it was going to the boot menu options before windows opens up and selected "safe mode with command prompt". When windows arrives the command prompt will come up, i just typed "explorer.exe" without the quotations; this took me tothe windows desktop. From here I ran my anti-malware and got rid of it.

Actually those virus programs are more or less al .exe files.

Meaning this is one of the very few instances that windows restore actually works for something. Had to deal with that on a friends PC a few months ago, and was really surprised, that restore was actualy usefull.

I work in IT and have been dealing with it for the last two years. A program called ComboFix can catch all version of the moneypak virus(fbi virus). Get combofix from bleeping computer, put it on usb, start your infected computer in safe mode, if the virus is active in safe mode start it in safe mode with command prompt (when you get the command prompt do a start explorer.exe command and it will bring up the desktop minus the virus.), run combofix and it'll pick it up.

Don't do a system restore, it's not as helpful as you think. You could have that virus for months before it activates and most of them infect computers through a backdoor exploit.

...actually, ignore this. I just skimmed the thread. Good job, man. And fyi, had you paid the "ransom" it would've crashed your computer.

Another way to do it, but which requires some experience in what to look for, is use "msconfig" from the Start menu to deselect all suspicious Startup programs (or .exes as @Grega pointed out) judging from their paths mostly and/or Services which is essentially what Safe Mode does but you won't have to put up with tiny resolution, black screen and limited functionality and stuff lol (although obviously Safe Mode is best and faster, I just never met an infection that severe that I HAD TO use Safe Mode to fix it).

After doing that, restart, then run stuff like TDSSKiller from Kaspersky to detect any rootkits (basically "viruses" in disguise), then scan with Malware-Bytes, use Combofix as a last resort, or if you feel advanced enough (and I mean REALLY advanced) use a tool called D7 from www.foolishit.com/d7/ which is ridiculously and easily the most overpowered tool anyone has ever seen for pretty much anything wrong with your PC. After you're done, use CCleaner for some light clean-up :). Hope this helps in the future.

just as a fyi since we're on the subject of viruses, bleepingcomputer.com is an amazing website you can refer to to get rid of a lot of malware and what not.

I have malware anti-bytes, malware anti-rootkit, spybot, adwcleaner remover and i think that's it.

but anyways viruses are bad.
