I have to admit the esf forums are a lot more strict than most other forums I've been to. Anything even the slightest off topic would be considered spam, you don't get post count for off topic post and the mods and admins are feared throughout the entire forum. Any thread with a question that has been answered before gets closed and the common "Hi I'm new here" thread gets the "This is spam. CLOSED!" response instead of the usual "Hi, welcome, hope you enjoy your self" response. Is it really such a sin to have a casual conversation when you meet someone it a thread that you have something in common with. I'm not questioning how things are done here, I'm just pointing out the uncomfortable atmosphere these forums have, where someone can fear being banned for a post such as this. Just a thought, I need something to talk about.

edit : and I forgot to point out the double post and no bumping rule in no other forum Have I seen these two rules so stressed. I cannot see the problem of using a bump to save your thread an get your question asnwered.

That is because these forums are costing the owner a lot of money. So the more people spam the more money it costs to run it.

I never considered the bandwidth cost, and I guess the forums are a free service and the esf team are working so hard and they're not getting paid, infact it's costing them money to make this mod. Yeah on second thought the rules are needed to keep bandwidth eating spam monkeys away.

The "Hi I'm new here" often does get a "Welcome to the forums" when in the right section or is moved and gets a welcome

Yeah, sorry that was a scrappy point, only ever saw it once in the models/skins forum when someone tried to introduce themselves and was bombarded with replies that told him the thread was in the wrong place. But it was in the wrong place and it was pushing modeling threads off the page. So sorry about that post before I really have no problem with how this forum is run.
