This isn't really for ESF, it's for Half-Life in general. I am not getting a single sound in-game and I have no clue why. I used to get the sounds, but now it doesn't do crap... and it's pissing me the freak off. :\ Sometimes I get sounds when i'm choosing my character when I first login to a server, but then it's gone. My sound works in Quake III and other games, but Half-Life is not doing jack. If you know a fix for this, please let me know ASAP. I want to play the new ESF , but without sound, whats the point?

Goto your Config>Audio> Then make sure High Quality Sounds is turned off.

Then your best bet would be to just re-install Half-Life.

Hmm, I re-installed and same result. Any other suggestions? Is there any console commands for this? I think the sound just got messed up somehow... It works like I said, choosing my guns and stuff. Once I actually join the game, it cuts off. Also the menu sound doesn't work either.

Try this while in-game.

I will find some more help support.

You can try this to.

SECTION 4 - SOUND ISSUES

To make sure that your sound card is configured correctly in Windows ‘95, check the Audio settings in the Multimedia section of Control Panel. The Audio setting defines what driver will be used to produce digitized sound (Waves). Speech and sound effects in a game are usually Wave sounds.

AUDIO: SB16 Wave Out

The names of the Audio drivers will vary, depending on your sound card. However, they should be similar to these SoundBlaster 16 drivers. For complete information (including driver names and installation instructions) on Windows ‘95 drivers for your sound card, contact your sound card manufacturer.

Problem: Choppy, bad, static sound or no sound at all.
Explanation: Half-life uses Microsoft’s Direct Sound. Some sound cards do not support this at this time. Others may require an update of the Sound Card Drivers to function properly.
Solution: Verify that your sound card drivers are 100% certified for DirectX. To check for certification:

Put the CD for the game in your CD-ROM drive.
Click on the Start button, and then select Run...
In the Open box type X:\DIRECTX\DXDIAG.EXE and press ENTER. NOTE: The X represents the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
This will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic tool. Click on the Sound tab and then check the Driver section. If the component is not certified, the game may not function properly. Check with your hardware manufacturer for DirectX certified Drivers.

Did you enable A3D and EAX sound support?
I've been on some computers where that fixes distorted sound, dunno about no sound at all though.

Update Sound card drivers, make sure the card itself is snug in the pci slot. If you have onboard sound, this could also be a problem. Make sure (if you have a card) that you disable onboard sound in bios, conflicts are a *****. If that doesn't help, what OS are you running? System specs are also needed.

If you have a creative sound card, its best to remove the card from your pc, look at the system tag of the card and then go to the creative website. Then with the system tag you got search for drivers, then youle get specific drivers for that soundcard which work alot better then other drivers.

Hmm alright, but this stuff worked perfect before... I can use Quake III, RTCW, Starcraft, Serious sam, and Jedi Knight with sound. I don't understand why HL would have sound for a few seconds, then be gone for the rest.
