Just a simple question. Why the **** does everyone still refer to the ps3, xbox 360, and the Wii as "Next Gen"?

It's not the next gen, it's the current gen. Next gen will possible me Ps3, Xbox 9001, and the Nintendo Weenis.

Dunno, it bothers me when everyone goes "This game is what next gen is all about". I don't seem to remember everyone refering to Ps2 and xbox as Next Gen for over a year.

Neither do i , and i am annoyed by this. The more we get technology, the more it gets targeted to the masses ( getting even more popular ), who don't know what they're talking about, at least so it seems..

It doesn't matter if The older gen are not declared dead , they still are older gen. I'd also like to place the wii among older gen, since the graphics are bad compared to the other two consoles, and doesn't even support HDMI.

Next gen consoles aren't entirely about graphics.

It's 'next gen' because it brings new things to the table other consoles don't necessarily have. For example the sixxasis for the ps3 and the wiimote for the wii. the wiimote is entirely new to consoles. Sure there was things much older that were similar but nothing to the degree of what it is now.

Some of it, yes, is graphics, they play a large role. The fact that a lot of the games are pretty help a lot. Some of the racing games for the xbox i've been looking are are extremely nice to look at.

the fact that most of the stuff is wireless helps, or can be wireless. Nintendo did it on the gcn but it wasn't standard.

There's also the internet. Now I know previous consoles had it (PS2, xbox, and to a lesser extent gcn) however they were only for a select few games. Now most games come standard with multiplayer online capabilities. Which is quite an achievement. It's also the setting stone for when higher speed internets come out and eventually most games should be almost lag free. Playing with people all around the world with minimal ping/lag will be a beautiful thing.

Not to mention it's a new term used in the gaming industry as a marketing scheme.

hmmmm As next-gen i understand the Engine Rendering completly in a different way and its able to handle much more Polygons/vertice/nulls/Textures/particles/ e.t.c then the older engines.

By hearing "Next-gen" you imagin simply a game with more detail or better quality ingame. Thats actually all, whats so special on next-gen games, in my opinion.
