In Dragon Ball Z, when, they created ki blobs:
-They weren't clear (they were opaque, usually yellow)
-They weren't spheres
-They didn't do anywhere near as much damage...
The Ki blobs were usually, as the name suggests, a blob (not really spherical at all). Everytime a Ki blast struck the energy already built up, it would cause another blast, and deform the "blob," as it were. The blobs didn't do all that much damage, however. For example, Cell was hurt only a bit by a Ki blob, and then ended up booting a surprised Prince of Saiyajins in the head, knocking him down to the ground...
I realize, that, the variants might be a little more intensive than the regular spheres, but, more than 7/8 of the gaming computers these days can handle the new variant, I'd say.
