Create a Steam account > Install Steam > Start Steam and log-in with your Steam account > Click on the "My games" tab at the top of the Steam window > Click on the "Activate a product on Steam..." button at the bottom of the Steam window > And follow the steps.

After that, Steam will automatically download Half-Life from the server and update it to the latest version. Once it's finished, you need to run Half-Life at least once (that is, start a new game), then you'll be able to install and play ESF.

No, you should activate your Half-Life CD-KEY through steam by following the 2 example images. Check the first image in my above post at the bottom. You'll see a circle. Press it on your steam to enter a cd-key. The cd-key should be on your cd-case or manual book/guide within the case. If you don't have the case or you never bought it, and you have downloaded Half-Life on the net, you'll never will be able to activate it through steam thus we cannot help you either.

You open the STEAM games list like skyrider showed in his picture. You click the "Activate product on STEAM" button and you enter the CD-key when it asks you for it.

Like Skyrider showed you with his second picture.

Your gamje is useless.

Once the CD-key is registered it can not be used again. Meaning the game is locked to your STEAM account. And noone else can make use of it. Even if they have the CD.

But on the other hand. If they get the CD, they can get Valve to change the ownership for the game with the CD as proof of them having it. And you end up loosing the game from your account ^^

It's better to buy the game in a local store and or the steam shop.
