militia are the guys that fought the pirates i think :/

Anyway, there were various instances that hunted down pirates back in the days.. Mostly Marine/naval instances..

Militia = normal peasants being called to arms during wartime (so soldiers without military training), so it might just be that they also 'fought' pirates.

Those guys in the movie were from the Navy. Militiamen basically had rifles, a bayonet I'd imagine, and some kind of uniform to let people know who they were.

About the same as pirates anyway.. They just had a uniform, rifles/musquets (or however you spell it), no wooden legs, no parrots, no booty, no eyepatch.. That's about it..
