http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834114237 - TOSHIBA Tecra A6-EZ6312 NoteBook Intel Core Duo T2400(1.83GHz) 14.1" Wide XGA 1GB DDR2 533 80GB 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel GMA950 - Retail $1,259.99

You got a few options there. You could buy the cheapest one and add another 512mb of memory to it later I suppose.

As a general rule, a laptop will either game, or it won't. There is very little leeway there. Gaming laptops will cost you almost a $1000 dollars for a bargain, somtimes as low as $800 for one with an older GPU, like a 9700 mobility, for example. For ones that won't game at all, you can go significantly cheaper, to the tune of $450 or more. Remember, the cheaper it is, the less functionality it will have, and it will likely not have any upgrade paths beyond increasing ram or getting a faster HDD.

Well, I have had several Acer Laptops in the past.
My Old Acer Extensa 2300, which featured:
1.5Ghz Celeron M (Dothan Based)
256Mb of DDR (Upgraded that to 1gb).
and Onboard Intel Extremely crap graphics 2.
Played ESF like a dream, And it seemed, more... "Responsive"
In WIndows, than my 1.6Ghz Yonah based laptop.
Celeron M's arent as bad as what everyone pretends them to be.
For a laptop chip, They are low powered, Quick little chips.
Just get an Entry Level Celeron M machine.
And drop some extra ram into it.
and if you see those laptops that say "Upgrade to blahblah blah graphics,
it means your laptop has upgradable graphics.. to an extent. :))
And some laptops, Where the Processor isnt soldered onto the motherboard also have upgradable processors.

Look for a laptop on eBay that works and has everything you want. If you just need it for typing reports and browsing the Internet, don't spend more than $250 or so. <_<

Thats it, Just shop around. Try before you buy, and ask a million questions about the machine. And dont be "Forced" into a system that you dont like. If you dont like a keyboard on laptop for instance, You will have no hope of swapping it with something else :)
